    Mystery solved!

Went back to the camera op, who fortunately had not formatted the P2 card yet. Turns out the problem was a bad Duel P2 laptop adapter, which had been slightly damaged. The problem was repeatable when using the first adapter, but when he used a second, undamaged adapter the files copied with no corruption. Dodged a bullet there!

Thanks, Shane, for putting your time & energy into this. I really appreciate it.

    Now back to logging….

    Thanks, Shane!

Your answer confirms what I already suspected, but it’s good to know there’s software available to help–I thought we might be S.O.L.

I look forward to hearing Jeremy G’s thoughts as well.

    Much appreciated!

  • Yep, that’s what I’m saying.

Here’s what I decided to try: For the title cards I just made the whole thing in Photoshop and skipped FCP’s title mechanism altogether. For the bits over video, I duplicatedthe sequence, fixed the titles & locked all the tracks before exporting with Compressor. That seemed to do the trick. It didn’t fix the original problem, at least it was a viable workaround.

  • Hi, Dave,

    Thanks for chiming in.

The photoshop file was set up with the proper pixel aspect ratio — and none of the text was generated in photoshop, just the background image. The proper look is thin.

    Many thanks!

    Hey, FY everybody’s I,
After several failed attempts, we bit the bullet, bought BitVice, set DVNC to 3, and the problem was solved almost immediately.
Thanks to all who replied for your help!
