  • Titles go awonk when exporting — anybody know what to do?

    Hi, All!

I’m doing a routine edit of a stage performance with very limited titles and have encountered something very strange: On the timeline, my titles look fine, but when I export for DVDSP my titles go from normal to bold.
    Behold! Timeline:

    Exported

This happens both when using Compressor [with the 90 minute DVD best quality] setting and when exporting to Quicktime Movie & then importing into DVDSP.

The images above were created using a .psd and putting FCP titles over them. The ones below are just plain old FCP titles over video.
    Like so:
    Timeline

    Exported

Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Many thanks for your time and collective expertise!

    Peace & respect,

    Hi, Dave,

    Thanks for chiming in.

The photoshop file was set up with the proper pixel aspect ratio — and none of the text was generated in photoshop, just the background image. The proper look is thin.

    Many thanks!

FCP can get confused with fonts that have multiple options within the one font set.

Use the Boris title tools which give a lot more control and reads all the font options properly. As a quick and dirty fix, in font book you could delete the thicker version of the font and then export your qt file. Reinstall the full font set later.

You’re saying that when you fully render and the export a self-contained movie, the self-contained movie, when opened in QT Player exhibits the incorrectly bold text?

    Yep, that’s what I’m saying.

Here’s what I decided to try: For the title cards I just made the whole thing in Photoshop and skipped FCP’s title mechanism altogether. For the bits over video, I duplicatedthe sequence, fixed the titles & locked all the tracks before exporting with Compressor. That seemed to do the trick. It didn’t fix the original problem, at least it was a viable workaround.
