Sorry Scott- that was seven years and eight billion moments of troubleshooting ago. All I can offer is what I had written above. Give it a shot! What do you have to lose?

I know this is very old, but I found it while I was seeking the same answer. Here’s how:
Select your audio clips and LINK them (to each other)
Keep them selected, right click, and choose MULTICAM->ENABLE
The waveforms on the lower tracks may disappear, but you may ignore this.
Right click again, and the option to flatten is there!
Once flat, the waveforms for all tracks re-emerge.

Since I can’t delete my own post, I’ll simply let you know that I had FRONT CAMERA selected, but exports will use ACTIVE CAMERA.
It’s always the simple things that are hardest to see.

I am now. I either get the spinning ball of doom (even after going out to lunch to let it import), or I just wholesale crash. Did you ever get this sorted?
