well, i took the plunge and just purchased a dually 2ghz G5(pci-x, 8 gig max ram) for $1699 shipping and tax free…=) couple that w/ 3 years applecare…can’t wait to load this baby w/ 8gigs of crucial ram, an ati x800, and a seagate or ibm 400 GB sata drive!
so i guess it is safe to say that purchasing a G5 DP 2.0ghz(pci-x, 8GB ram capacity for $1699) for fcp, video/graphics use will last at least a good 2 years?
well, i am just getting my feet wet w/ commotion…all i have are matt’s commotion complete discs and this forum…so yes, please keep this forum! maybe scott squires can purchase his software back from avid? 😉
craig, if you can wait another week until wwdc, at least see if stve will make any new announcements:
macosrumors.com: “Apple’s first quad-processor Mac won’t be a PowerMac, or an Xserve; it will be an all-new product line, the long-rumored “Xstation” according to sources. Dual-processor Powerbooks and other dual-processor Macs will follow the introduction of this new machine which could come as soon as Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference early next month.”
if not, check out expercom.com…they have the dual 2.0 w/ pci-x and 8GB expandable memory for $1999. this includes applecare so you can look at it like you’re getting it for $1799 since applecare costs around $199. you also get free shipping and no tax unless you live in utah.
