  • Hey Dan,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Can you give some more specific details as to what you are doing? You mention 720p which we do have presets for, but not in the 24p and 30p framerates (as those were done via Varicam before and no longer require blackmagic specific presets).

What format are you using? Is it uncompressed (10bit or 8bit) or a compressed codec like DVCpro (or other).

How is your preset setup? Ideally we’d like to get a very clear idea on how you are setup so that we can check the same setup over here. You mention that audio is a pretty big problem, is your audio linked to the clip or is it audio brought in from a different format like MP3 or WAV.

Maybe with this information we can figure out what’s going on and get you up and running.

Its worth mentioning that the interface between Blackmagic and Premiere has changed with CS6. Before it was required that our devices did a lot of the reformatting of the signal before outputting. With CS6 all of this is handled internally by Premiere then fed off to our cards for outputting. The upshot to this is that we can support more features native to premiere and can let the software take better advantage of the Mercury transmit engine.

Again, if we can figure out what’s going on, if it’s a bug we can fix it, and if it’s a workflow issue perhaps we can suggest a better way to get what you need done.

    Sincerely,

  • Media Express only supports certain formats for playback. It does support some H.264 files for playback, but not to our hardware. It’s a display playback only.

So you can use perhaps another application (like FCP which may tolerate the other format better). Or you can have the files converted into a format Media Express understands.

    Hey Ben,

If your output settings are set as you’ve mentioned, then all should be right. Of course you need some footage in Media Express to playback to the monitor.

The way our boards work is that all the outputs stream simultaneously. So if you get output from HDMI, you should also get it in component.

As for importing files, it’s important to remember that Media Express is not QT, you can’t just open anything in there. You need to use a supported codec at a supported framerate and resolution. So as an example you can use 1080i59.94 10bit Uncompressed. Or you can use 1080i59.94 ProRes (if you have FCP installed). But you cannot open an MPEG2 file in Media Express.

Once you get the right type of file i’m sure you’ll find it will open up and play nicely.

Did you install the Desktop video software before you installed Premiere? We rely on the application to be in place prior to the installation or the installer cannot put the plug-ins in the right place.

So if this sounds like it might be the case just uninstall and reinstall the desktop video drivers.

That being said. Our installer also relies on registry entries to install the drivers. If premire was “upgraded” these keys can get broken or just be wrong in which case the plug-ins might not install either.

If that sounds right, then try reinstalling premiere and then reinstall the Desktop Video drivers.

As for copying the files into place, this can be done, but it’s not just the project settings that need copying, there are some other files that need putting in place. Typically the easiest and quickest way is to try the reinstalls listed above.

    Correct,

Lion (10.7.x) or higher only as the core media components required to work do not exist in the earlier OS’s.

  • This should be fixed in 9.5.3.

Cool…i’ll try to get a tech to repo that and if we can find the same thing we’ll report it up.

    Thanks for that!

    Hey Guys,

Just a sanity check here. You guys are using the 9.5.2 drives and not the 8.x drivers as mentioned in the post? George’s last post seems to imply that you were using the 9.5.2 then downgraded to 9.5.0. Just want to be sure.

So I’d like to try to get this reproduced here. You said that if you used the XDCAM 30P preset the output was odd, but if you used a native BMD setup it worked fine? What is your source footage? There seems to be some scaling issue here, and i’d like to get it narrowed down. So let me know your source footage (res/framerate and codec) so I can try to duplicate here.

    Thanks guys,

    Sincerely,

February 29, 2012 at 2:08 pm in reply to: OpenGear Software 1.8.2 — what does it actually do?

The software does not need to see the card (as in the utility). In the case of the UDC the only interaction for the software is the firmware update. This will happen when you plug in the device and start the utility. After the update there will be no further interaction from the GUI.

I hope that helps to clarify.
