  • I had a similar problem. I loaded up a new version of the firmware and all was well. After the firmware is updated, be sure to fully power down everything and bring it all back up again.

It would be for 4 internal soft raided disks. During a Resolve presentation, I vaguely remember something about it being built specifically for DPX. Codecs like ProRes seem to be more processor intensive to decode.

I’d throw cash down today if it was available.

I went back and RTFM again and realized that the firmware isn’t updated until the device has been restarted (unplug for 5 seconds and plug back in). All is well now 🙂

    Would this work?

You would only be gaining one spot since you need a card to interface with the other expansion box. The next size up can hold 4 cards. It could also be used with a Macbook Pro 😉

September 28, 2010 at 1:53 pm in reply to: Avid DNxHD “MXF” files via Unity?

We typically pick a DNxHD resolution (220 or 145) and stick to it once we uprez. There’s a couple of scenarios that would make sense:

    1. PowerMaster to tape in DaVinci. In Avid, capture the master and cut it over your sequence.

    2. Render out to a single quicktime movie and use AMA to bring the media back to Avid.

    3. Render out a new MXF folder in DaVinci and relink to that media in Avid.

Not sure if any of those would actually work. I’m just taking a few workflow guesses.

I kinda like these, but haven’t tried it yet:

Seems like it would be nice to add your own labels to the keys 🙂

September 10, 2010 at 5:56 pm in reply to: DNxHD and Avid MediaFiles directory?

Thanks for clarifying the ProRes support. It’s actually MORE expensive than DNxHD support. My bad 😉

Avid has several database files to keep track of it’s media (known as the MSM files). I’m not sure if the tape or timecode is readable from the actual MXF files or if Resolve can read those database files. I heard that Nucoda systems can utilize media that is stored on a unity, so I suppose it’s possible.

How crazy is that remote grading? Has anyone heard of that before?
