I don’t know if this will help out, but it seems to contain a lot of info on the MOOV Atom:

In addition to the time as a factor in the deadline issue, there’s also the time as a factor in the budget price. If creating custom effects is going to add a couple of days time to a project, it’s definitely possible, knowing that the RG arsenal of pre-built effects is available, to build your quote taking this into consideration. Sometimes, in the lower budget projects, cutting a day or so’s work can mean the difference between being losing the project, and being the hero.

You don’t say anything about the sound card in your MacBook Pro, so I would assume that they use an onboard card, but there should be some sort of control panel for levels going in to and out of the card.
A microphone input is typically a very low level signal, and is mono. A line in will be expecting a much higher input level, and will usually be stereo.
The sound card should have an additional pre-amp stage for the mic to bring it up to line levels. Here’s a rundown on the internal card (probably Intel):

Can you adjust the input levels on the device outside the MB which is sending the audio?

So how does RG Universe effect RG plugin suites which I already own? I’m dying to try it out, but I also own, and have installed, Magic Bullet Suite, Effects Suite, and Trapcode Suite. I just want to make sure that Universe won’t interfere with my installs and licensing. Thanks. It looks like a great concept! Some of the free presets have effects you could achieve with multiple effects in AE, but they are so much easier to use – a real time saver. I’ve also posted this question on the RG Universe blog, so if I get an answer there first, I’ll post it here. Thanks.

March 11, 2014 at 2:57 pm in reply to: MOV played out on PC AE not recognised on MacAlthough I find it hard to believe that FCPX wouldn’t accept any flavor of Quicktime, that appears to be the case. Bear in mind that Quicktime is merely a wrapper, and that it’s possible to have DV, HDV, XDCAM, DNxHD, ProRes, DVCPRO, MPEG-4, and other actual encoding within that wrapper. This is the problem. Most suggestions I’ve seen are to convert your H.264 files into ProRes.

March 11, 2014 at 2:02 pm in reply to: create a .mov file that plays automatically without play control at bottom of boxBill –
That capability is often independent of the .mov file, and resides in the settings of the player you’re using. My website uses JW Player, and I can go into the settings and either turn Autoplay on or off using True or False radio buttons.
If this isn’t exactly what you’re asking, here’s some info that might help from Apple regarding Quicktime issues:

March 10, 2014 at 3:27 am in reply to: Make footage look like I’m holding something I’m notJeff –
I don’t know what sort of grip you’re using, but learning the Roto Brush could be the ticket to it looking right. I assume that you’ve tried to figure out which digits would be on top and which underneath the object you’re holding. If it’s some sort of device, the standard grip would be all fingers underneath, and thumbs above, so you’d Roto Brush the thumbs part of your hand, make a duplicate of the footage with thumbs masked, then layer that over the object. But don’t just start messing with the Roto Brush – it’s not at all intuitive – learn it from one of the posts on the Adobe After Effects Channel.

March 9, 2014 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Modify Timecode–broken? Or am I just not getting it?Chris –
Looking at the documentation for versions after CS5.5, it looks as if the software reads whether your timecode is drop or non-drop, and that’s it – no settings to change that. See if you take away the same thing as I did from the docs:

There is a huge library available for Audition – you’ll find it here:
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=auditionloopology
Bear in mind that you have to be a registered user and log in before you can access the files. And the download will take some time, since there are multiple GBs worth of material there.
