Have you taken a serious look at Adobe Bridge? It sounds like just what you need, and you already have it if you have Premiere Pro. I ran the art department of an ABC affiliate, supplying projects for News, Promotions, and Commercial Production, tracking upwards of 300,000 assets, from art elements, music, scripts, 3D assets, and video, and was able to put my hands on any project within minutes!

It allows you to manage you font collection in a number of ways – you can compare fonts, load and unload them as needed, and tag collections. It’s quite useful.

Normalizing may help in bringing up the sound levels as well. If the camera was pretty far from the talent you may be stuck with the room ambience, but maybe boosting the bass a bit could help as well.

Just to set your terminology straight: A camera can pan right or pan left, zoom in or zoom out, tilt up or tilt down, and dolly in or dolly out (if it’s on a wheeled dolly). Those are the basic moves. The term pan is short for panorama – it has nothing to do with in or out moves.

It is most likely a codec from a camera or output source which is not installed on your system. I just ran into this last week – the footage was from a Blackmagic Ursa camera and it would only display green. Luckily I was only using the footage as reference for a documentary graphic design package, and I was able to pull stills from it.
The way in which I did this – and the way that you can check whether this is your problem – is to try playing the footage in VLC Media Player. It will play just about anything, plus you can probably identify the codec that’s missing by looking at the properties in VLC. You can also transcode the footage in VLC to something compatible with your system, just in case you can’t get the missing codec. Good luck!
