Is it possible that you are using only the Simple Edit Mode?
Go to the Advanced Edit Mode and all is well.
See Main Toolbar. -
You can still do the same in Movie Studio Platinum 13.
They just made “timeline editing more efficient” by making it more complicated in some instances. Some of the editing tools are now only in the Edit>Editing Tool menu and not in the new toolbar below the timeline. You can use the shortcuts D and Shift+D to switch to the next/previous Editing Tool.

You’ve probably found it by now in the Options > Ripple menu.

Some of the buttons are rearranged in this “overhauled, redesigned, and simplified” (SCS words) first build of MSP v.13.
“Customize Toolbar” which was in the Options menu in the previous versions seems to be removed. -
Vegas Movie Studio project files (*.vf) will open in Vegas Pro if the (*.vf) file was created in a numerical version that is less than or equal to the numerical version of Vegas Pro. (SCS KB)
If you have a MSP 12 64-bit, you should be OK.MSP 13 just came out and by definition the projects from there should not open in VPro 12.

An option is the SCS suggestion in the MSP 12 release notes.
You can share projects between 32- and 64-bit versions of Movie Studio installations, performing editing as needed in 32-bit Movie Studio and finishing the project in 64-bit Movie Studio. -

According to the SCS site, Movie Studio 11 is in fact still supported. I believe the principle of supporting two latest versions is still valid.

The latest build is 563.
You should use Downloads / Updates on the SCS site to see and download the latest build/free update of your Vegas Pro 12.
Vegas Pro 12 to Vegas Pro 12 Suite is an upgrade you have to purchase if you want it. It’s not a free update even though My Account / My Software currently gives that impression.
