You can use multiple source windows. There is a setting somewhere (“Double click source opens new window”, or something to that effect). I haven’t used it in years, might be in the timeline setting? Otherwise, David’s suggestion is pretty good.

I’m not familiar with that extension. Do you have program or elementary stream selected? It’s directly above the MPEG 1/2 pulldown menu.

Keep in mind the file structure of a DVD calls for the audio and video to be seperate files.

Elementary stream encodes 2 files – audio and video.

Program stream keeps the video and together so it can be played without the file structure of a DVD.

Do your conversion in Sorenson – look at the presets on the left side of the screen and choose MPEG2. Or use your MPEG1 settings, and choose MPEG2 from the drop down in the settings menu. Then adjust your settings to match your requirements.

I freelance on an Avid – the producer upgraded his QT to far, and one of the quirks is a disapearing menu. I have to restart it to get it back.

I didn’t see anything in the Mac OS that would adjust the overlay – and the footage I worked with seemed fine – colors popped, etc…

Do you have full resolution selected? It’s a little green button at the bottom of the timeline window. It should be full green, but could be yellow or half yellow half green. Just click it until it turns green…

I’d use After Effects and the random number generator…

If you don’t have AE, digitize a window burn and crop it using a PIP effect…

As somewhat of a resolution to this thread, this is what happened…

Renaming folders didn’t work – I stupidly shift + deleted the unrecognized folder.

I right clicked the desktop, selected propertites, and went to ‘clean up’. The media showed up in several folders. I was able to get some of the media back into the Avid folder, some wouldn’t go. Bottom line is I had to redigitize a lot of stuff, but not as much as I feared.

I did learn this: NEVER, EVER stop a disc check. Even if you have a client coming over before it will finish. Because that client, like mine, will cancel and reschedule…
