EDL stands for edit decision list. It was used extensively in the linear editing days of video editing, and AFAIK, is still used in the film industry, or when you are taking a project cross platform (Avid to FCP, or vice versa).
It is basically a list of your edits, describing (in text form) what the edit was (cut, dissolve, wipe), the reel or tape number, timecode information of the source and the master tape. Most EDL formats I’m familiar with only support cut / wipe / dissolve effects. If you’ve got a fancy, multilayer effect, you’ll have to take copius notes on how it was created.
You can save an EDL from your sequence, but you can’t save video AS an EDL.
Do you edit your work and send it to another facility for audio or color correction?

Media Composer only supports Vista in 3.0 – you’ll have to upgrade. This may be the problem, or not. As far as seeing the camera, make sure the camera is on BEFORE you start Media Composer, and you’ve got your timeline set to 1394 (in addition to setting the input on the digitize tool to 1394).

Also, make sure the timeline is set for 1394. There’s a menu selection on the bottom somewhere, and in the menu as well (sorry, not in front of an Avid right now…) Finally, make sure your digitize tool is set to 1394 as well…

Upgrade to a new system.
I’ll bet if you add up all the manhours you’ve spent troubleshooting this problem, you’ve come at least half way to buying a software based Media Composer. You’ll have more capability, and all your projects will work in the new system (I may be wrong, but I believe your media will work as well).
I would try trashing the MCState, and see if that helps. I forget where it is in OS9.

Sounds like you’ve done a little bit more work than you need to. Simply add a mark in on a sync point (a drummers stick click or hit, a singers eye blink). Once you have marked in points on ALL your layers, go to special / group, and select synch on inpoint. Voila’! Lay down your best audio track. Now go to multicam mode (shift+control+m) and you are golden.

I used two Samsung flat panels on a Meridian system for a couple of months before I bough an MC. How old is your system? It should work if you adjust the resolution to the highest it can go, no?

You can’t connect SDI AND component to an SDI Mojo. It’s either SDI and composite, or component and composite.

Unless it’s certified Avid, don’t upgrade QT. It may work for a while, but you will run into problems.

I think the question should be how much control do you have over motion effected video. In Media Composer, its quite a bit. In the discontinued XPress Pro line, it was pretty basic.

How many layers of video do you have? If you have two layers, and have both tracks activated, it will use the top track when moving to the next edit.
