    Hello All,

I have persuaded my company to buy a new Mac Pro to run Avid Media Composer as one of our two “back-up” editing suites. Meaning it’s primarily only going to be used when we’re slammed and a producer needs a suite to offline projects. Because this is a “back-up” suite we have not bought any additional Avid Hardware, and are only running the MC software. Which brings me to my questions. Is it possible to capture video from a Panasonic AJ-HD1400 deck without Avid Hardware? I have hooked it up using firewire and had deck control, but now video or audio signal was coming into MC.

    Thanks for your time
    Gabe

[Gabe Cotto] “hich brings me to my questions. Is it possible to capture video from a Panasonic AJ-HD1400 deck without Avid Hardware?”

Yup…via firewire. And it will capture it as DVCPRO HD…full res.

Ok…you need to go into the DECK PREFERENCES and choose the right deck. Have you done that?

    Shane,

Thank you for the quick reply. I have the deck configurations set up properly and it still doesn’t bring in the video. Any other suggestions?

    Again thank you,
    Gabe

What are your project settings? Are you in a proper HD project that matches your footage?

Also, make sure the timeline is set for 1394. There’s a menu selection on the bottom somewhere, and in the menu as well (sorry, not in front of an Avid right now…) Finally, make sure your digitize tool is set to 1394 as well…

    HTH,

If you are using the rear firewire port on the CPU, try using the firewire port on the front.
