  • Capturing to Avid through a firewire camera

This has probably been answered before, but I feel like there may be some additional problems that makes it unique for me.

I’m trying to capture minidv with a JVC GY-HD100 camera connected through firewire into Avid Media Composer 2.8 in a Windows Vista pc and it’s not seeing the camera.

The computer is seeing the camera. Choosing Auto-Adjust immediately brings “No Deck” into the dropdown. Adjusting the deck myself still means it can’t be found.

I’ve never captured from a camera before and I’ve never captured through firewire before.
So I don’t know if there’s some secret setting I need to change to get Avid to read from a camera? The audio and video inputs are set to Host-1394.

Another possible problem… is Media Composer 2.8 supposed to run on Vista at all? Am I just running on a fluke and really none of this should be possible?

Media Composer only supports Vista in 3.0 – you’ll have to upgrade. This may be the problem, or not. As far as seeing the camera, make sure the camera is on BEFORE you start Media Composer, and you’ve got your timeline set to 1394 (in addition to setting the input on the digitize tool to 1394).

Alright, thanks. I’ll try those things then. Sounds like I mostly need to upgrade :\
