I agree with what the others have mentioned.
For people who use my Pro Motion Menu Kit products, and want to learn more about After Effects, I strongly recommend to them to watch Video Copilot’s Basic Training. It’s completely free, and will give you a great understanding of how the program works.

Restarting of the computer is likely due to a physical problem with hardware (such as bad ram, power supply, overheating of the cpu, etc.) or a driver issue. It is unlikely that the problem is from the Adobe software installation.
If I were you, I would try running a program called Prime95 for a while to make sure its not a hardware failure. If that program runs flawlessly for a long time, then you know it’s likely a driver issue.

You should be creating the text for your menu in the after effects animation. You can control when the highlight starts to display by setting the menu’s Loop Point.

It addresses many issues with Blu-ray authoring as well. Although my testing was done on a PC, I’m sure many of them effect Macs as well. Some of the bugs I mention, such as using a dynamically linked asset for a motion background will crash encore if the project is not closed and re-opened before building.
Something in your workflow is likely causing the crash due to a bug in the software. There is always a workaround to avoid these bugs using a slightly different workflow. If you tried building your project over again and it has the same crashing problem, then please list how you are building your project, in particular, the menu structure and all the type of assets you are using.

I’m pretty sure all DVD players can downmix 5.1 audio. I have not heard of any that cannot.
Many old dvd’s have a 2.0 stereo and 5.1 track. I’m assuming this is so they could have complete control over the downmix, instead of allowing the player to do it.
If you recall, old dvd’s weren’t always designed optimally. Remember when widescreen movies weren’t anamorphic? They would just letterbox a 4×3 stream and it looked like garbage.
Using a single 5.1 track on the disc provides more space for the video allowing for higher quality and less compression.

So your audio and video are contained in a single mov file?
I’ve experienced a bug with encoding motion menus that use the same quicktime asset for audio and video, but I have not tested a main video in a timeline to see if a similar bug exists.Try rendering out the audio to a separate file and see if that works. Make sure it has the exact same work area as your video, or else it will be out of sync.

I currently run both on my machine so I can create CS3 compatible projects for my Pro Motion Menu Kit products, and test it for compatibility in CS4.
Everything works fine. Plugins must be installed to BOTH programs. To do this, install the plugin to one of the programs (CS4 for example), the plugin should create some files/folders in your AE plugins directory. Copy those files to your CS3 plugins directory and it will now work in both programs. I’ve successfully done this with all my Trapcode plugins.
Like the others said, CS4 projects will NOT open in CS3, however CS3 projects WILL open in CS4.
When bridge is launched, it will open the same version of bridge that the program is. For example, AE CS3 will launch Bridge CS3, and AE CS4 will launch Bridge CS4.

A stereo 2.0 track is not really necessary as the dvd player can downmix a 5.1 stream to 2.0 on the fly. However, if you want full control over the downmix, you can create your own and place it in the timeline below the 5.1 mix as an alternate audio.

The reason I mentioned the booktype, is that I’m not sure how the Primera Bravo Pro device would handle it if you did in fact change it. If you are placing DVD+R media into your Bravo Pro, then it will burn it as a DVD+R (i’m not sure if you can modify the booktype with that device). So just to be clear, I don’t think changing the booktype to DVD-ROM will help your situation, since the Bravo Pro device was designed to read burned media.
My first suggestion would be to burn at a slower speed (4x)
If that doesn’t work, my next suggestion would be to do what the others suggested and build a folder with encore, and use ImgBurn to burn the disc (at 4X of course). Building an image instead of a folder may work as well.
