Hi.
I’m trying to acheive the exact same thing.(It is hard to explain if you’ve never used a 3d package but its a very handy normal tool)
I want to be able to rotate the ‘gizmo’ so the angle of the anchor point e.g. the Y axis runs along a diagonal. (No rotate the image to match the axis.)
Did you ever find out if it was possible. I’ve spent the last 5 years working in After Effects as my day job, making promo videos and this is the first time I’ve needed to do it. I guess normally a 90 degree angle if fine…
For your information I’m creating a paper aeroplane animation.
A document folds up into a plane and flies off.
Could achieve it easily in 3ds max, but I’m using After Fx on a Mac…
I have achieved it as is, and it looks alright. I had to adjust the x,y and z axis for each separate folded part of the page to get it to rotate at the right angle after having moved the anchor point to the edge where it folds.
Its ok, but you can see that some of the folds are not 100% right, e.g. when the plane folds up and flies past, you can see one of the folds sticks out awkwardly a little and it takes lots of adjusting the x,y,z rotation to find where it should be.

September 29, 2009 at 4:14 pm in reply to: Words to layers in after effects..is there a script?Hi thanks for that link, not bad but still not ideal.
It would work well if the text was all supplied as a nice text file.
The ideal would be:
A script that creates a small dockable window with a one click button. If not this then a normal run script would work ok.
Then you type what ever text you like,
Press the button/run script and have it break that text into individual layers for each work. Basically duplicating the layer for the text, and keeping any settings already on it, 3d position, motion blur on, material parameters etc.
Cheers…maybe I will have to start learning how to do more code than just typing ‘wiggle’ now and again.

I’d checked before, and I’ve just checked again.
There is a ‘decompose’ script but that breaks your text up into individual letters rather than words.?

September 11, 2009 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Move some layers plus only the keyframes in another layer, is it possible. Thanks for the reply, I guess that is the best way to do it, seems such as shame that you can’t simply hold down ‘shift’ or something similar and drag and let it drag any layers selected plus any keyframes picked out from another layer.
If anyone stumbles across a way built in or using a script that would be just lovely.
Cheers

Thanks for the link. Just watched the tutorial plus a second one importing into Cinema 4D.
Nice simple bit of software, have downloaded the demo, and did a test shot. Works nicely.
Now do I bite the bullet and pay the £100 for the software. Obviously a bargain in the camera tracking world. Or persevere with MatchMover which my work bought 2 years ago.
Tempted to buy the software for myself anyway, purely for the simple easy to use interface. Shame it doesn’t have a mask feature built in to it, only the ability to import matte layers.
Hmmmm…Thanks again…and if anyone does have any tips on MatchMover it would be good to know.
Cheers

March 16, 2009 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Automate Rendering- hiding layers unhiding for each renderThanks for the reply. Some of the text needs formatting a bit, ie first two words then move down a line for the rest of the title….so would be tricky with that method.
Looks like its gonna be the slow method or nothing..
Cheers again

February 19, 2009 at 1:21 pm in reply to: is there any way to export a bitmap sequence out of after effects???thanks very much for both the replies.
Could not find the bmp files in my after effects program files…so a reinstall would probably of been needed.
But as Todd Kopriva recommended installing Quicktime and using the export image sequence does the job perfectly…So thanks for that one. Saves me a long job during a busy time at work…

as I suspected something must be wrong with my after effects install…
No bitmap sequence to choose….???
do have tiff, tga, png etc etc etc… but no bmp….
will give a reinstall a go.
Cheers for the answer.
