    Good morning.
I would consider my self pretty damn familiar with after effects, after working with it for a few years now. But have stumbled across a problem. I need to export some compositions as a bitmap sequence as part of a production work flow (they will be renamed b3d files to be played on a phillips wow 3d screen).

Is there an way to export bitmaps directly from after effects?

My current work around is to export TGA’s then batch convert them in photoshop, but this is adding extra time to an already long process.

I can not see a bitmap option in the export settings….

any ideas would be greatly received…

    Cheers Jon

In the render queue, just click on the “output module” settings and in the “Format” dropdown at the very top of the window that pops up, BMP sequence is among the first in the list.

I suspected you would’ve known that and that there might be something else going on. Before doing a total re-install, you might try

[1] Trashing AE’s preferences … a pain if you work with many very customized settings as I do, but you’d lose all your preferences with a re-install anyway (unless you keep multiple copies of your prefs).

[2] Investigating whether there may be a BMP issue on your machine either not specific to AE (having issues with BMPs in any other apps?) or specific to AE … is AE’s BMP extension file where it should be? On my windows system,. it’s at …

You can export a BMP image sequence using the export components installed by QuickTime in the File > Export menu.

Choose File > Export > Image Sequence, and then choose BMP from the Format menu in the Export Image Sequence Settings dialog box.

thanks very much for both the replies.

Could not find the bmp files in my after effects program files…so a reinstall would probably of been needed.

But as Todd Kopriva recommended installing Quicktime and using the export image sequence does the job perfectly…So thanks for that one. Saves me a long job during a busy time at work…

    Cheers Jon
