One of the reasons for copying the entire card is to allow the Premiere Pro Media Browser to correctly identify the media type. This allows it to handle things like spanned clips seamlessly.

An interim method would be to copy the card, but not format the card afterwards. Go back and shoot more, and just copy the additional various files. More file management for the user though, and that risks human error, of course.

Another approach is fully copy the card as you continue adding on to it. You’ll have multiple progressive copies, of course. When the card is full, you make your final copy and delete all the partial progressive copies. Again, a little more management for you.

If you don’t use Premiere Pro’s Media Browser for import into bins, none of this will matter as much. If you do, and especially if you have spanned clips, you’ll benefit.

And if you find yourself working with a lot of material like that, you can save presets in that Modify/Audio tab for convenience.

Most of my P2 footage has only channel 1 & 2 audio, so I have preset that knock out unneeded channels.

I also have a preset simply called, “No audio, please!”

Just so everyone gets closure, this is all resolved. Corporate IT said we have to go to CC2015, so we’re up and running with CC2015.02. I was concerned about possible After Effects issues in 2015, but most of my colleagues say that has largely been resolved for now.

We also had a bad drive in the RAID. It just failed this week. The replacement arrives tomorrow, and then we’re off to the races again.

Dave, the bizarre thing is they were all working the previous day. It isn’t a new install at all. Have you been aware of any circumstance where activation “deactivated” on its own?

I might be oversimplifying. Would selecting the footage in Premiere Pro, right-clicking, selecting “Modify Clip, clicking on the “Interpret Footage” tab, and then telling it to conform to “Progressive” do the trick?

Even though some of the character content is green, it is a darker shade. I would think you could tighten the adjustments enough to manage that.

What problems are you having with Keylight? That looks like it would key pretty well.

If you have a few bad spots, you can have more than one copy of Keylight on the clip.

You have just discovered the difference between a database-driven NLE (Avid, for example) and a non-database driven NLE (Premiere Pro).

That is not a criticism, by the way. I’ve used both, and I would still prefer Premiere Pro for the nature of the work I do.

But yes indeed, very long-form projects will do better broken into multiple timelines. Easy enough to conform at the end to produce a seamless master file render.

Tell us more about your system. Version of Adobe software, Mac or PC, etc.

Also, what storage did you move files “from” and “to”? Is moving the files after edit part of your normal workflow? Done this before without issues?

What type of media? Shot on SD cards or P2 that has a file folder structure? When moving media, was the entire folder structure maintained?
