Cool! Thanks for the quick answers, guys!

That’s kinda what I thought, but just wanted to verify before getting into a potentially bad habit.

    Thanks!

April 5, 2006 at 1:09 am in reply to: HD monitoring on the MB Extreme: recommendations?

    Adam,

Sounds like a nearly identical rig that I just set-up. I, too, am still undecided on a DVI monitor.

Some other models that have gotten good comments on the IMUG list are:

    – Syntax Olevia 37″ LCD LT37HVS ($1500 at Target)
    – Sceptre X37SV-Naga LCD/TV w/1920×1080 resolution ($1700) – they also make a 42″
    – Westinghouse LVM-37W1 37″ LCD TV/Monitor

Just remember, you won’t see any interlacing/field issues on an LCD, so unless you’re only working with progressive material, you’ll want to have some sort of smaller NTSC CRT to double check things (downconverted to SD).

Hope this helps, and let us know what you end up buying.

March 3, 2006 at 12:44 am in reply to: PCI Express SATA cards?

The Sonnet SATA E4P Card product page now shows a ship date of March 15th. OWC has it on their site for pre-order ( https://tinyurl.com/qmpqd ) and shows it will be available in 9 days (or about March 12). I pre-ordered mine yesterday, since I’ve been waiting for this card since the Quad was announced.

February 1, 2006 at 11:54 pm in reply to: uploading for broadcast

Last time I looked into doing something like this, the major systems (DG Systems, etc.) were using a high bitrate MPEG-2 transport stream I believe (approx. 20Mb/s). But you had to buy their hardware ($10k), and pay fees for them to distribute the file. Not very cost effective for a smaller shop like me.

I would love to be able to deliver :30 spots to stations in an a tapeless way. I have the software to compress and upload the media to an FTP server. I could just send out a blanket email with a link to the file(s). Then they download when convenient. It seems to make sense, and would sure beat making 40 beta dubs, 40 sets of labels, 40 FedEx packs, blah, blah, blah…

As was mentioned, you should probably contact some of the potential recipients and see what they can use, or would prefer.

  • Luke,

I’ve been corresponding privately for some time with Carey Dissmore, regarding Mulitbridge Extreme integration. I’m still in the planning and acquisition stages of building my new FCP multi-format system, but I am looking forward to release of Multibridge Extreme. My application will be very similar to Carey’s, in that I will need to display output from FCP on a broadcast CRT as well as a large scale LCD. Initially, I’ll be using Betacam and DVCPro50, but will also need to integrate various flavors of HD as the need arises.

I, too, am extremely interested in the scaling capabilities of the DVI output of the M-E. The ability to adapt easily between various 720p, 1080i, 16:9, 4:3, HD, SD formats will be extremely important in my workflow, and hopefully, the Multibridge Extreme will fit the bill.

And of course, I’m hoping it ships by year-end – to arrive at the same time as my new Quad G5.

Thanks in advance, for what looks like another outstanding product from BlackMagic Design!
