  • Here is what I do.

Make sure the video track of the clip you want the original audio is active (light grey) and put the playhead over the clip so you can see it in the program monitor. Hit the M key to match frame to the original clip that is then sitting in the source monitor. Hold the Alt Key and select the audio in the timeline you want to replace. Right click on it and select replace with source, match frame. All the effects will be in tact etc.

I have created short cut keys for replace, replace match and replace from bin so this is a very quick process for me.

    Let us know.

    Hi Enno,

Yes this is a problem, which has been corrected in CS5.5

It can be annoying at the least knowing how it “should” work in a logical way, especially coming from FCP.

However there is now way around it until you get CS5.5 or later.

What I did to lessen the pain, what hit my in and out points then hit Q key to jump the playhead to the in point in the timeline, then hit ” key to extract and it would be ready to play as it does in FCP and now CS5.5

  • It looks more like frame blending, which can happen when you shoot in a different frame rate than you edit/export with.

Take a close look at the frame rates of the footage and the sequence and the export.

I stand corrected. There is not option to export properly this way via PPro. You will need After Effects.

What do you plan on watching it back on? 16 and 18fps is not a “standard” anywhere any more.

This will only work with CS5 or higher:
Set your image sequence to modify… interpret footage and then go and set the fps to 18 or 16. You will need to keep the same frame rate for a clean output.

Drag the clip with the custom fps onto the new item icon at the bottom of the project panel. Wait. A custom sequence will be created and the clip you dropped over the icon will be in the new sequence with matching fps. frame dimensions etc.

When you go to output you will not have any video file codec run at 18 or 16fps. You can only export as an image sequence which will maintain the frame rate in the sequence it’s exporting from.

This will then only be used for transfer to film to maintain that custom frame rate. TV, DVD, BLuray, WEB won’t make a video file that runs at 16 or 18fps, it’s not a standarad anywhere in video. It can be embedded in a standard video signal to play in realtime, but it won’t be that smooth and will repeat frames to show less frames in more frames per second.

    Good Luck.

May 4, 2011 at 11:45 pm in reply to: motion blur problem

    Hi David,

The problem is not “motion blur”, but that the pace of the motion is too fast for the eye to keep up with the sideways movement. This is more scientific limitations of sight rather than technical settings in editing.

Slow it right down (make the motion take a longer time to move) and you will see a dramatic improvement.

You are still in 30 day trial mode. HDV is only available in full serialized and active mode.

  • When using a Dynamic Link from PPro to En there is an awesome feature that has little attention drawn to it whereby if the timeline hasn’t been transcoded yet, you can right click on the DL timeline in Encore and select to update chapter markers and they all get updated to what ever changes you made in the PPro timeline.

    Oh Yeah!

  • Have you tried to import the video clips one at a time to see if they import correctly as video and audio files?

If they do then you might just need to simply delete the cache files from the Preferences and reboot, then allow Premiere to re-conform all the files again.

Another option is to start a new CS5 project and import the old CS4 project into the project panel, select entire project so you keep all the lovely bin structure you had in the CS4 project.

Vince is right in there. I was about to post the same thing. Its a known issue with gamma reproduction in Quicktime. Apple have never bothered to fix it on the PC side so VLC and even WMP is your safest bet on Windows side of life. VLC is at least across both systems so I tend to go with that if what I am doing is to go across to the Mac.
