It could be that your cache has been setup to your C drive My Documents by default and as the system drive is full it could be causing cache file problems. You can empty the cache files from inside the Preferences. Reboot and you are on your way, however this means any conforming must be done all over. WHICH YOU MUST LET IT FINISH IT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. As this was probably the cause of the cache error in the first place. (trying to edit with a clip that is not yet finished caching).

    Sorry for the Yelling. 🙂

June 14, 2011 at 12:52 pm in reply to: Removing a Piece of a Video CLip

This is some advanced stuff and worthy of a tutorial, but I will endeavor to help by text.

There is always more than one way to skin a cat, so this is one way:
    – Make a Sequence just for the Triangluar video.
    – Place the video on track 1
    – Make a New Title and set the show background video button (top right) to on so you can see the video in the Title Design Area
    – Use the Pen tool to shape out the Triangle.
    – Make the fill white and uncheck any outter edges or shadows.
    – Make a Rectangle that fits the whole area and make it fill to Black.
    – Right click the Black Rectangle and “Arrange>send to back”
    – Now the white triangle should sit on top of the Black fill BG.
    – Add this Title to Track 2 directly on top of Track 1 clip length.

In the Effects Panel type in Track Matte
    – Select the effect and drop it onto the video clip in track 1
    – Set the Effect Controls settings to see Track 2 as the Matte and you should now have a video only showing through the white triangle area.

Make a new Sequence to composite the final edit with.
    – Add the build Sequence for the triangle to Track 3
    – Add the Left video to Track 1
    – Add the Right video to Track 2

You might want to add crop effect to the clip on Track 2 to compose better. Track 1 clip will be under all the other clips and won’t need a crop, just move it into position.

    Edit away…!

June 14, 2011 at 12:28 pm in reply to: Premiere CS5 playback problems

Did you recently unplug the audio out jack? That can cause a similar problem with PPro if it was done while PPro was open. Usually a switch away and back to PPro App can get it to play nice again. Otherwise a reboot will do the trick.

If you are still getting the problem try to start a new sequence and copy the clips to it. Test. If still happeniing, start a new Project and import the old project into the new one. Test. If still there I would attempt to isolate whether or not it’s just that clip…

Hmmm.. Let us know if you are still having the issue.

June 14, 2011 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Editing in 50fps or 25fps??

Sounds like you are working in FCP not PPro… Unless you are working with less than CS5…which can handle H.264 from HDSLR natively.

Personally I keep all my source files as they were shot so I have the option to use 50fps in a 25fps project for slowmotion. Making a 50fps clip as a 25fps clip is pointless in my opinion as you just lose editing creative potential from the table.

    My 2c.

June 14, 2011 at 12:14 pm in reply to: CS3 Multiple Issues

CS3 is getting pretty long in the tooth now, are you still running in a WindowsXP environment or Mac?

It would help to know if you are working with DV footage or something else?

Source Monitor maybe set to playback in High Quality or Automatic where the clip is not affected by any effects or adjustments so it can playback fine as a raw file from the HDD. The Program Monitor could be having difficulties playing back Automatic at Highest Quality on some clips if they have had any alterations to the original clip by adding an effect or even moving the clip by only 1 pixel or scaled at all (which may have happened by accident). Check that the clips playing back with less than clear quality are not using any effects and reset the motion settings in the effect control panel. See if that helps them playback better.

Overall the pixelation is not a problem, just a way to view the playback without needing to render to see it. It won’t affect the quality of the final export. If you want to check, just export out that section.

PS: If you are running CS3 on Win7 in XP Mode it may not be supporting the software properly as it was not intended to be run on Win7 or later versions of the Mac OSX before Leopard.

That is true. Pass Through has not yet made it into PPro… Add a feature request!

Can I ask, when making a new Title using a previous Title as a “template” do you open it in Title Window and use the shortcut to “Make New Title based on Current Title” button?

In CS5.5 I have started using the Duplicate option from a Title in the project panel and then open it in Title Window. Just wondering your process…

June 14, 2011 at 11:41 am in reply to: keyboard shortcut to cycle between sequence tabs

I just remembered there is a feature to multi-stack the panels or two or more timelines that way you can simply move the mouse into the other timeline and grab what you need and simply work with a top/bottom workflow.

    such as:

Yes. I too would like to see such a shortcut added as I tend to work off multiple sequences for “building” an edit.

    I feel your pain. 🙂
