November 4, 2012 at 10:55 pm in reply to: multicamera editing – computer upgrade advice adviceHi Louis,
John-Michael is correct in that your system is not fast by todays standards and that at the core of the issue is the datarate of 6 streams running at the same time.
I helped someone recently with this issue and found the way around it.
First you need a dedicated drive for the media.
– Make the Multicam sequence as you would normally (prob already have this)
– duplicate the multicam sequence and rename it to reflect it’s the original media
– From the Project Panel “Open in Timeline” from right click option (this will open the multicam nested sequence to show each camera angle as a video track)
– Remove all the eyes from the video tracks and 1 at a time from video 1 show just that camera angle and export it to MPEG-2 HD CBR at 6Mbps
– If you have 6 Camera angles, name each camera MPEG-2 export as the relevant Cam#.
– Import the new Proxy camera angles.
– Make a new Multicam Sequence and name it “Proxy Cameras”
– Open in Timeline
– Select All and copy
– Open the Timeline you are doing the edit in and hold control(command on mac) and double click the nest you were editing from.
– This should open the original Multicam Seq (NOT THE DUPLICATE)
– Select All and Delete.
– Paste the Proxy Material, to be sure they paste into respective tracks, have no tracks targeted or just the video 1 track.
– Go Back to the Seq you are Multicam editing from with MC window.
– This is where you can edit your Multicam shots.
– Once you have finished the choices of which angles when and where, go back to the duplicate of the original select all and copy, go back to the nest that you have been editing from and select all, delete, paste the original material in place. Now the proxy – light weight media for MC edit is replaced with the original DSLR media and will playback like it’s one continuous edit, ready for quality check and grade, effects, etc.
Hope this helps. (Bit long winded – will have to make a tutorial)

October 13, 2012 at 9:03 am in reply to: Looking for Broadcast-like text plugin for PP CS6You know you can make animation presets. Then replace the content. Make multiple duplicate comps and replace the text.
There are ways and means. You get a nice flow going. All depends on your complexity of animations. Can achieve some stuff in PPro with presets too. And replace with content keeps animations.

October 5, 2012 at 9:34 pm in reply to: How to blur the outside of the frame, but keep the center/subject in focus?Take a look at this video tutorial to see how it can be done with an “adjustment layer” in CS6.
The concept here shows how making a transparency/opacity map allows effects to apply across the map and certain regions. The gradient of the map allows for a blur effect to start heavy at the full opacity areas and thin out over the gradient.

Hi Axel,
I would look at it as extending your knowledge base and skillset.
Premiere Pro CS6 is being taken up by many post houses and broadcasters so your Premiere Pro skills might be more handy than you realise 🙂

The metadata panel shows the properties of selected assets. Select the clip in the timeline and the metadata will show.

There are several ways to work with titles.
You can either use a title with internal titler and duplicate the master clip in the project panel this is quicker than opening the title and using the make title from current function although it is the same result.
I used to work out the lower 3rd background element as a separate element in it’s own right so if I needed to adjust that part I only needed to change the original and all instances of it in the timeline would update. The text would be broken out to just text layers.
Another way I used to work was with Photoshop. I would import the entire PSD will all layers in tact so I had many names all across different tracks and each was a clip. Then I would add another layer if i needed to bring in more text layers.
This gave me the flexibility to go to the Original PSD and select all the text layers and change the font, layer style, color or whatever in one foul swoop whereby they would all update really quickly in Premiere Pro.
Hope these personal workflow tips help 🙂

September 21, 2012 at 10:53 am in reply to: WYSI *NOT* WYG — problems with Use Maximum Render Quality setting for outputAre you using a Cuda Card? Try to turn that off and work in Software only mode. The setting with CUDA puts the export into linear color space, which lifts the Gamma, turning it off takes you out of the color space change.

Sounds like 3 point editing. Set IO in timeline find I point on clip and overwrite. Make sure your patching from source to target track is right. Done.
