  • Match Frame Edit NO Replace Clip

This seems simple, but I can’t figure a way to do it.

I want an edit basically like a “Replace with Clip – From Source Monitor Match Frame”, but I just want to Insert/Overwrite an edit to my targeted track, basically a normal edit, but by matching frames.

So I would think I could on the timeline set an In and Out point and then place my Current Time Indicator (CTI) at the desired frame, then in the source monitor place the CTI at the desired frame and then do the edit, which would match frame the two CTIs and figure out the in/out point on the source footage.

Is there a keystroke / button way to do this? Otherwise I can put a false clip in there, then line it up and do the “Replace with Clip … match frame”, but that seems like a long way to go. Or I’d have to drop on markers and line them up… seems simple, there was a keystroke to do it like above on my old-school Convergence 103c.

    🙂

    thanks

Sounds like 3 point editing. Set IO in timeline find I point on clip and overwrite. Make sure your patching from source to target track is right. Done.

Yes, not quite, but I appreciate the response.

I would not know the IN point on the source, only the spot between my in and out on the timeline where the CTI is sitting and a corresponding point on the source where the CTI is sitting.

IE: Just like you are doing a Replace Clip match frame, ie: the frame matches on the timeline and source CTI. But in this case I just want a plain old overwrite like happens with what you suggested.

So I want to do a Replace Clip – match frame type edit, but using IN and OUT points on the timeline instead of replacing a clip.

It must be easy… like say you have 1 mins of a guy talking no edits, and he says ‘so the dude walks over to the dock and jumps in the water’ and you just want to lay in a clip of a guy doing that on a higher track with an overwrite edit, you set the in/out on the timeline, put the CTI where he says ‘jump’ and then on the source put the CTI where the guy jumps…

You should push a button and in it goes… figuring out the in/out points on the source based on the match frame. Just like replacing a clip match frame would do.

    thanks!! 🙂

I think the thing you’re trying to do is a replace edit where you park the playhead in the source monitor on the frame you want, then select the clip in the timeline and park the playhead on the frame you want the frame in the source to be. Then go to menu Clip > Replace with Clip > From Source Monitor Match Frame.

This is good function for matching action to audio.
Make sure the video track is selected for this function otherwise the option in the menu will be greyed out.
