Hi Roli,
Premiere is definitely better than Final Cut! Once you switch, you’ll never look back.
Those laptops are both pretty tops. You’d want at least 8 gigs of RAM (and preferably twice as much as that for smooth editing with effects and so forth).
A Solid State Drive makes such a difference, it’s huge.
A touch screen will cost you more, and not give you much appreciative benefit. I’d recommend skipping it.
Windows 7 or Windows 8 is great (don’t listen to people who tell you Windows 8 is subpar, they’re just moaning. I’ve used both and there’s no huge difference) but you definitely want to make sure you’re getting the 64 bit version of the operating system.
Both laptops have great CPUs, so I’d choose the one that doesn’t have a touch screen.
Hope that helps!

Hi Jon,
I am assuming that you previously installed the plugins on your old machine, and you have the know-how to install the plugins on your new Mac Pro. (I’m super jealous of you for getting one of these gorgeous machines, by the way!)
Are you aware of whether the plugins are 64 bit or 32 bit? For CS 5.5 you’re going to need 64 bit versions of your plugins. That’s the main reason I’ve encountered that plugins do not show up.
Hope this helps!
Kind regards,

Does the Smooth Cam Filter show up under the Filters tab, or not at all? If it does, but you’re not seeing any effect on the clip, is your shot sped up?

October 5, 2011 at 2:18 pm in reply to: apply Strobe to moves made in Motion tab w/out nesting?I’m sorry, I cannot help, as it works just fine in my FCP 7. What exactly is causing you to not be able to put Strobe on those clips?

It looks like Trapcode Particular, which is a plugin for Adobe Aftereffects. It’s a pretty complex effect, involving mapping out the geometry of the shot and put the particles in there. Never done it myself, just read about it.
I’m sure it’s possible in Motion, using Replicator. If you go to Library -> Content, and drag in one of the “lines”, you could probably dissect that and see how it’s done from there.
Not much help I’m afraid, but I would suggest rather attempting this kind of effect in After Effects.

October 5, 2011 at 12:51 pm in reply to: apply Strobe to moves made in Motion tab w/out nesting? Are you just keyframing position in the Motion tab? More information would be cool. I see no reason why you can’t keyframe in the Motion tab and then add strobe to that clip. If you’re keyframing the Strobe filter, and want to add Strobe over that, you can just layer another copy of the filter underneath. Though I can’t think of any situation in which that would be necessary.
Sorry. If I had more information, I could give more advice.

October 5, 2011 at 12:22 pm in reply to: Thinking about going FCP over Premiere. Can FCP do these things?1. No. Short answer. Neither NLE allows you to do that. You might find some automator script on the web somewhere… doubt it though. Here’s a doubtful workaround for Premiere Pro: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/898271
2. To export clips from the timeline (in both NLE’s) you have to set in’s and out’s around each clip and export them one by one (or add them to the queue in Adobe Media Encoder).
In FCP if your playhead is positioned over the clip, you press “X” to set in and out points around the clip in the timeline.
In Premiere Pro it’s in the Marker>Set Sequence Marker>
in and out around selection = /
in and out around clip = shift+/So…. FCP doesn’t seem to have any advantage over Premiere in either of your issues.
Hope this helps, and your faith in Adobe is restored….
