  • Sorry – finger trouble – I of course meant my.cnf (on a Mac). Its location can vary but its usually /etc/my.cnf.

  • It’s not uncommon to need to increase max_allowed_packet in you my.conf or my.ini file. I ususally set it to 16M.

If it’s log in time then it’s almost certainly loading very long pick-lists causing the problem. When you log in you should see some status messages appear in the bottom left hand corner of the main window – saying things like “Loading values for My Picklist” or similar. This should give you a clue as to what ones are causing the problem.

If that doesn’t help then its probably best if you could run up a fresh copy of CatDV. Log in to the server, then go to Help -> Error Log and click Save Log Files and then email the resulting ZIP file to support@squarebox.co.uk and we’ll take a look.

If the information you need to extract is encoded in the path/filename then yes – the Worker can extract that information and write it into your chosen user fields.

When you say load times – do you mean log on time or loading a catalog?

It could be something very simple, like path mappings. If you set up your tabs so media path and proxy path are visible, what values do you see for your tiffs? Is the hi-res path shown a valid path on the server (rather than on the client). If not you will need to add a mapping rule on the server.

  • This is caused because Apple have removed QuickTime for Java from the default install of QuickTime and, worse, the latest update to QuickTime actually removes the QuickTime for Java that you have installed.

To fix the problem you need to manually install QuickTime and tick the QuickTime for Java option as detailed in our FAQ:

    https://www.squarebox.com/cant-find-quicktime-for-java/

We are currently working towards removing the dependency on QuickTime for Java from future versions of CatDV. Stay tuned.

I’m afraid we didn’t receive your first email but, as you are aware, your issue is now in the system, and I’m sure our support team will be able to help you.

In terms of ports there are two separate ports. The CatDV desktop application connects via RMI to port 1099 and the Web Client (and other HTTP based clients like the iOS Apps, Premiere plug-in etc.) connect with HTTP on port 8080 by default. I wouldn’t change 1099 to 8080 that would probably cause confusion.

It does appear that there is currently a problem on Mavericks with the Control Panel persisting its settings. We are working on fix for this it at the moment, but that might be the problem here. Not that it should actually stop the server working, it will just show up wrong in the control panel.

I would suggest that if you are still having problems that you email support@squarebox.com and we’ll investigate further.

Sounds like the Control Panel might be having trouble writing to its preferences file. Could you re-run the Control Panel, making sure you are logged in as an admin account, and go through the Setup Wizard and check the IP address is what it should be and hit Apply, just to get it to retry writing the file. Hopefully that will sort it out.
