First thing I do is look under the hood. I recently put in a new Decklink card, and Resolve started crashing the entire computer after a few minutes. Turns out the cables running to the external HDMI bracket were rubbing up against the fan of the GPU, causing it to thermal shut down (which luckily saved it!)

A little OT, but I just finished a 9 reel feature (each reel in it’s own project), that I considered sharing the rendering between two or three workstations. The R3D’s and VFX are on a shared SAN. If I export the projects and import to a workstation running Lite (assuming HD and no NR), would this work?

Looks like we may have got this problem solved (with the help of Scott Freeman). Below is a synopsis of preparing an Avid edit (that may have Multi Cam edits) for Resolve. Not all of these steps may be necessary but it worked for us:
ps—ignore the EventMob errors
All Bins and all else should be closed.
Go out of Avid Media Composer, then restart program.Open a New Bin for AAF.
Copy one ACT into the new Bin.
Place Act into Record Monitor/Timeline.
In Timeline:
Remove all Audio Tracks.
Remove all unnecessary Video Tracks.Go to head (first frame) of ACT.
Go to Record Monitor & click (to activate it).
Right-Click mouse for Drop Down Window ïƒ select ‘Sequence Report’.
Sequence Report Window appears ïƒ Type in Time Code for the Act in Timeline.Mark IN & OUT marks for entire Act.
In Record Monitor, place Blue Position Indicator at first frame of Film/Sequence.
Go to: CLIP ïƒ REMOVE MATCH EDITS.Go to Bin (containing the Act in your timeline).
Highlight the Act/Sequence.
Right-Click for Drop Down Menu ïƒ select ‘Commit Multi Cam Edit’.
A new Act/Sequence appears in your Bin with the extension: NoGroups.Select/Highlight the new Act with extension NoGroups.
Right-click for the Drop Down Menu ïƒ select Export.Export Window appears ïƒ Fill it out, and select ‘Options’.
New window appears ïƒ select settings
Click Save As.
This takes you back to the Export Window ïƒ click ‘Save’.Status Bar window appears representing the creation of the AAF file being made.
AAF File Icon appears on Desktop. -
See this thread for the problem I’m having currently with AAF’s:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/17103#29372Try to export an EDL from AVID and use that to import your media (Resolve 10 manual p112). You will have to eye-match any push-ins and deal with speed changes manually, but at least it works!

Same problem here. Any news on this?
Avid MC 6.5.4
OSX 10.8.4
Resolve 9.1.6 and 10.1.3, same problem -
- Set Timeline Resolution to 2k 16:9
(2048×1152)
- In Output Scaling set to scale full frame with crop
.
- Remove output blanking
.
- Deliver at 2k DCI Scope 2.39
Resolve has a very good “optical quality” scaler. I would be curious to see if AE could do better.

Time Machine. Most you’ll lose is an hour of work…

When you say semi-pro, do you mean without clients sitting next to you or looking over your shoulder? For the money you are talking about now, you may want to go Flanders for a little more. Peace of mind is worth a lot. Otherwise, I think the ZT is selling at a premium right now. Go with the VT (I think Alexis V. is using the VT as his MAIN monitor)
If you go with something others than the Flanders, be sure to have it professionally calibrated. I use David Abrams at Avical to “bless” my monitors, after I calibrate them myself. (I don’t have a $15,000 probe!)

I have had problems even with media managed multicam projects. Use an EDL instead of the XML. You will lose sizing info, but if it’s only a few shots you can eyematch them using the still store (offline/mix). If you don’t have access to the FCP project this is the easiest way to get rolling. Just tell the editor to email you an EDL.
