Network Rendering?

April 30, 2014 at 12:10 amResolve should be realtime based on GPU so as far as i know it does not work
like net rendering like in some 3d apps.—

April 30, 2014 at 12:36 amYeah… we have dual k5000 cards but exporting 4k to EXR/DPX renders about 5fps. Though this is amazingly fast compared to other apps like After Effects, it still takes some time. Would love to send it to the farm like we do with Nuke, Handbrake, AE, Maya, C4D, Houdini, etc.

April 30, 2014 at 6:47 pmYeah… our IO is slow as we are rendering DPX/EXR to our GigE server. This is why I would like to take advantage of our farm. We’re more of a motion design/vfx company than editorial/color, so our priority is on CPUs more than IO… down he road we may invest in a Stornext SAN.

May 2, 2014 at 2:39 pmWhat I really could use is a separate render queue..
I like to keep my projects light and sometimes work on several during the day.
I also tend to use the Sapphires and TP Noise reduction more frequently, so the ability to send the render to another machine or even the same machine and render over night would be a great thing to have.
A render queue like this needs to be able to start the app, execute the render, check rendered files, restart the app when it crashed and report back.A slice of color…

May 2, 2014 at 3:57 pmThis is where I was going as well with my initial question. We had a lot of noise reduction and about 10 nodes which slowed down the renders. I want to distribute the rendering around our office to multiple machines. Resolve doesn’t necessarily need the render queue built in as there are a lot of great queuing apps out there (we use Uberware Smedge). These apps just need a command line app. Most of the tools we use have this so Smedge just works. Just point to the executable, find the file path, and it distributes the render. In the case of resolve, we should be able to just stack up a bunch of outputs like it currently works, save the project, then use Smedge to distribute the processing. Should be simple for image sequences but maybe a little trickier for QT (we wrote custom scripts for After Effects to handle QT). Works best for tools built as command line tools from the get-go like Maya/Nuke/Houdini… other tools without a real command line tool do some workarounds like After Effects but it still works fine. Hopefully Resolve will have this in the future.
