March 21, 2012 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Output from timeline looks muddy and degraded from original source fileThanks for responding Jerry,
I am comparing the two files (the QT source file pre timeline) and the (post timeline exported QT file withthe same codec settnings) side by side playing on the same copmputer screen. Definatley a difference and can’t figure out why.
I made sure that my settings on FCP are the same codec as the source file I brought in also…I do have to render the file since I am adding some titles and effects… -
Ok one more question.
I have the choice to Log and Transfer the raw BAV file through FCP, When I look at the files Item Properties
It says Vidrate:29.97/Frame Size:1440×1080/Compressor:HDV 1080i60/Pixel Aspect HD 1440×1080. and its a 12.8gig 50min clip.-
the thing I can’t figure out is that the same clip injested through FCP Log and TRansfer and SonyXDCAM Plugin come out exctly the same when viwing thier properties in the FCP Browser
BUT**when I take those same clips and look at it through the info pane outside of FCP it says the file downloaded through SonyXDACM plugin its a MPEG-2 codec and at 1920×1080 dimension. while the clip that went through FCP Lg and TRansfer is still the same as in FCP??Does it make a differnce in log.Transferring clips using FCP Log and TRansfer or the SonyXCam plugin?
Maybe I’m overthinking this and stick with what looks to be working…

Thank You Jerry for all your insight….I did some test with small clips and everything seems to line up great for multicamedit.

Jerry, What would be your WorkFlow from start to finish?
If you had these multiple clips and wanted to use multi cam edit and then have your project on DVD
What would be your work flow with (setting for ProRes)??

Thanks jerry,
Yes I have multiple clips 1. 1440×1080/29.97/HDV 1080i60/. 2. 1920×1080 AppleProRes/29.97/
3. 1280×720/29.97. So Jerry my main question is/are…
1. After Logging and Transferring into FCP, my clips then go to compressor to make match codec/resolution/frame rate? Use ProRes LT to keep my file size smaller? Is there anything special I need to make sure I do when transcoding into the Pro Res 422 LT? pixels settings, should be square? that kinda stuff….
2. When bringing my converted footage down to the timeline what should be the Easy Setup timeline setting be? Match what the comressed footage now is?
3. When finished editing do I then make Qucitime (self contained file) then send to Compressor to make a
MPEG-2 DVD file? Or send to DVDStudio Pro?
sorry for all the questions
Very grateful for any insight…

One more question..
I have more files to Log and TRansfer. Is there a way to Log and TRansfer my media files so that they will end up matching for multi Clip Editing in FC? Hence skipping the Logging and Transferring time then taking them to Compressor to make all in the same format?

Ok I figured it out….I needed to do the “time stretch” command…didn’t knot it existed..found it…thanks..

Not having any luck… I am using a jpeg and or png form Action Essentials…When I drag the jpeg to the timline or over my compestion frame it always ends up at the begining of my clip and its only 8 frames long. How do you make a jpeg longer? I tried stretching it but no go….I know I am missing the obvious here but I need help..
Thanks

Hey John,
I finally got to try your fixes, how do I repair permissions? Plus I tried taking these two video files and put them on my FC on my laptop. I get the same error once I add the second video clip on the timeline”codec not found you may be using a compression typ without corresponding hardware”

Have you tried downloading MPEG Streamclip ? I have found that this free utility software quite usefull and easy for doing any kind of file conversion. There is also one called Handbrake.
