August 6, 2009 at 3:05 am in reply to: Vista x64 Maximum RAM Limitations= 6.8GB?

I’ve got a quad core running Vista Ultimate 64 bit with 8GB of RAM. I’m currently rendering with After Effects CS4 with multiprocessing turned on and Windows Task Manager shows 7.8 GB of the RAM in use.

Mind you, just to boot up Vista uses about 1.8GB of RAM!

    Hope this helps,

August 6, 2009 at 2:10 am in reply to: Hotkey to scroll thru Effect Presets or any dropdown?

Yes, I mean something similar to the scroll wheel for fonts or Shift +/- for blend modes.

So for example you apply StarGlow to your layer, then click on the Preset item in the Effects Controls and by hitting a hotkey you advance down thru each preset previewing it on your current layer. Every time you hit the key you see the result of the next preset on your current layer.

    That’d be a great timesaver.

Not that I could find. Bummer hey! I would have thought this would be a fairly commonly sought after effect.

Thanks, where did you download the Morgan Multimedia CODEC from? I’ve getting malware warnings when I go to morgan-multimedia.com.

Also how did you determine which codec was the problem?

    Thanks,
    John

July 24, 2007 at 8:38 am in reply to: Slideshow ala Encore in Premiere

    Thanks guys for the responses.

It seems silly that Encore can’t output to anything other than DVD or Flash. Its automated slideshow is brilliant. Perhaps next version???

I’ll have a look at Imaginate. I really need to be able to comp the the slideshow with other stuff in Premiere.

    Thanks again,
    John

August 27, 2006 at 10:30 am in reply to: Nucleo, Nucleo Pro with standard Network Rendering

Thanks Mylenium, but what if I do this:
    1. Use Nucleo Pro and set up a background render with the “skip existing files” option ticked in render settings.
    2. Start the same render job as a network render on the other machines.

Will Nucleo Pro see and respect the fact that those frames have already been rendered and so skip on to unrendered frames?

Will the other machines see the frames that Nucleo Pro has rendered?

This way I could have the other machines on the network and the Duo2 fully utilised in rendering the project. Would this work?

    Thanks,
    John

  • Thanks everyone for your ideas. Looks like I’ll have to go for the old render out and re-import trick.

Shame, I thought there’d be a more elegant solution.
