[James Strecker] “Describe “using iTunes,” if you would please. Like backing up my files?”
Yes. I have a Mac so it may be a little different but in iTunes there is a File Sharing option but it may only work if you used a 3rd party camera app. Normally, if you used the default camera, it gets synced with iPhoto on a Mac. I know you don’t have iPhoto on a PC so maybe iTunes will use the File Sharing option.
This is what it looks like on my Mac:
As you can see, I have recorded a video with FiLMiC Pro and then in iTunes selected my iPhone and then File Sharing and selected the app and it shows all of the files that can be transferred to your computer. I’m guessing something similar exists for the PC version of iTunes.
It’s worth a try.

December 20, 2018 at 12:52 am in reply to: Vegas as Audio Mixer: How to Turn off/on Audio Preview Slider ?[Francis Lee] “1 – What is the “Audio Preview” used for?”
It allows you to set the volume when you preview media independent of the master volume. This comes in handy when you are auditioning ACID Loops in the media pool to hear how they sound. Sometimes they might be too loud and the preview slider lets you lower them.

[Bruce Brent] “So, John, do I have you beat? LOL”
Not sure without knowing the model number of the Canopus PCI card. The DC10 card was very old as well. It only captured to MJPEG (it was pre-digital video DV) and only had a resolution of 320 x 480! They actually double the horizontal pixels in the software to make it play back at 640×480 analog. They may be around the same time period but if the Canopus captured 720×480 DV it was probably newer than the DC10. The Pinnacle Studio DC10 software also ran on Microsoft Windows 95 so it may be older. But they are close. I’ll have to go into the basement and try and find the box (I know I still have it somewhere) and see if there is a date on it. Try and get the model number of the Canopus card and we can compare.

[Nigel O'Neill] “The new UI is hard to get used to”
I’m glad I’m not the only one.
[Nigel O'Neill] “I am dabbling in PowerDirector 16 for the movie club I run because it is inexpensive and powerful in features for what you pay for…”
That’s why I love the Mac. iMovie is included with every Mac now, and it’s very capable which makes it easy to use with video clubs and after school programs.
[Nigel O'Neill] “…and reminds me of Pinnacle Studio 8, which was my first editing program. Gosh…I am giving my age away by admitting to that!”
I got you beat… I started with Pinnacle DC10 1.5 (that had an analog capture card and ran on Windows 98). I believe the upgrade path was Pinnacle Studio 7 for me. What a debacle, that software never worked right. That drove me to buy Sonic Foundry Video Factory 2 and I eventually upgraded to Vegas Video 3 and the rest, as they say, is history. ????

[James Strecker] “I have tried plugging my phone into my computer (PC, Windows 10) and manually copy+pasting it from the phone’s photo folders—the connection drops before the video can finish copying.”
Have you tried using iTunes? That is the normal way to transfer videos from your iPhone to your computer.

December 19, 2018 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro 15 Project Markers in DVD Architect[Rob Bond] “Using the Vegas Pro 15 Sony AVC/MVC Blu-ray template fixed the problem. I am not sure why the Magix AVC Blu-ray template appears to lacks the ability to embed Marker information, but now that I know I will avoid it when authoring to Blu-ray.”
That’s good to know. Thanks for reporting back here so that others can benefit from the knowledge in the future.

[Marius Dudu] “Is there a direct way to convert audio track from 29.970-fps-video to 25-fps-video using Vegas or Sound Forge ?”
Actually what I would do is convert the video and audio from 29.97 to 24p which will use inverse telecine and keep the audio in sync. Then speed it up to 25fps and it should not be noticeable. Most movies which are 24fps are converted to 25fps just by playing it back one frame faster per second faster. For Vegas Pro I believe all you need to do is drop the 24p footage on a 25fps timeline and Disable Resample on the event and it will just play out back at 25 fps with audio in sync.

December 18, 2018 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Error -36 on certain folders of a raid 0 esata driveThis article from OSXDaily: How to Fix Error Code 36 in Mac OS X Finder suggests that if dot_clean doesn’t work, that it might a problem with the .DS_Store files and suggests this approach:
Delete All .DS_Store Files from Mac OS X
Which suggests this terminal command:
sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;
Good luck!~jr

[Brad Leigh] “I usually would get these answers by reading through posts, but I don’t see the usual suspects posting here so it’s hard to tell.”
I guess I was a “usual suspect” lol… ????
I moved to the Mac a few years ago and now use Final Cut Pro X on my 2010 Mac Pro 12-Core and I’m loving it. Yes, I’m editing video on an 8 year old Mac and it rocks!!! (of course most 2018 PC’s don’t have 12-cores so… lots of power to spare in these ole’ Mac Pro towers)
I’m not as active here as I use to be just because I don’t know what the new features are all about. I stopped using Vegas Pro at version 12. I keep our VASST plug-ins up to date with newer versions but I don’t use Vegas Pro anymore. I’ll answer general video editing questions here but can’t really debug issues because I don’t even have a PC anymore so I’m done with graphics card problems and GPU’s not working, etc. That’s all a thing of the past for me.
I will say this. Coming from Vegas Pro 12 the UI will be a BIG shock! It was for me. I use to be able to look at the UI and see what icons where on and off and assess my track situation immediately. I don’t even recognize 1/2 of the icons anymore in Vegas Pro 16 and they’ve moved some to the bottom of the timeline and the dark interface is horrible for anyone getting older like myself who’s eyes require more contrast than when I was younger not less. I hate the dark UI on Final Cut Pro X equally. I don’t get this whole dark UI stuff but it’s definitely hostile to us older folks. I set mine to light in Vegas Pro. I wish FCP X had that option.

[Vic Shadez] “I noticed when I bypass all effects it goes away. why would that happen?”
Usually this is a graphics card issue. The FX are probably GPU accelerated so turning them off eliminates the GPU and thus the problem. Make sure you have the latest drivers. Sometimes the latest drivers are the problem and you need older drivers. It’s a tough one to debug. Find someone who is using the same graphics card and see what version drivers they are using (assuming they don’t have the problem).
