Subclips in Vegas are not real files. They are just meta-data about longer clips made to look like shorter clips but there is nothing on the filesystem to represent the actual subclip and thus nothing you could copy to an external hard drive. I’m not sure how you thought you did it before but subclips are not file system objects. You would have to copy the actual files that the subclips are taken from.

If you are targeting a DVD you can just render to DVD MPEG2 right from the HD project. I also answered your other post and suggested using the Sony YUV codec but it wasn’t clear that you are trying to render to DVD. No need to nest in an SD project.

You would need to make a custom template. You want to use a bitrate of about 16Mbps to get 3 hrs on a 25GB Blu-ray disc.

You could always render to Sony YUV. The files will be huge but there will be no loss in quality.

You need to lower the bitrate to about 4.5KBps to get 2hrs on a DVD. Use the Custom button on the Render window and on the Video tab make your average (bps) 4,500,000 (it defaults to 6,000,000 which is too high for 2hrs)
Alternately render to AVI and let DVD Architect fit the video to disc when it renders to MPEG.

It sounds like you have used the Default Template which is uncompressed. Why are you rendering it to your hard drive? (i.e., what is the final destination?) and render it with a template that is appropriate for that destination. e.g., if it’s Blu-ray disc render to M2T ot AVC, if it’s the web render to MP4, if it’s a DVD render to MPEG2, etc.

I commend your cat for insisting on a clean workspace uncluttered by superfluous windows focusing only on the most important aspect of the project… the timeline! 😉
You can grab any window that is docked as a tab by the 4 vertical dots in the upper left corner and drag it out of the dock to make it float again.

Can you render it to AVI in sections? Maybe 4 sections so that’s only 25% each. Just create a timeline selection and when you render check the box that says [x] Render Loop Region Only. Then place the 4 AVI’s into a new project and render the whole thing to the final format.

I’m not sure exactly what that means. Are you saying that you have successfully done this on a MacBook Pro running Windows XP and DVD Architect? Or were you using Mac OS software?

I’m not sure if more memory would help. 2GB should be fine. Try rendering a Blu-ray compliant file in Vegas and just use it in DVD Architect. Maybe you’ll have more luck rendering with Vegas.
