You’ll need a program that can capture streaming Windows Media format video (which is what that video is). A quick Google search reveals several programs that claim they can do this. They all have trials but in the end you need to buy them.
The whole idea of using streams that don’t get cached on your hard drive is because the content provider doesn’t want you to have them. Of course, you could always simply record the screen with any of the free screen capture programs. 😉

Try disabling HDV scene detection in the General preferences of the HDV capture tool. Lots of people are having problems with capturing from the XH-A1 with Vegas. A quick search here at the Cow reveals lots of questions with no answers. 🙁 If you find a solution please post it back here so others can benefit.

You should render your files as MP4 using the MainConcept AVC/AAC encoder. It looks like viddyou restricts you to 640×480 unless you purchase a premium account for HD. Of course, you would need an HD camera as well.

This might be better asked on the FCP forum since FCP is very restricted in what formats it can edit. Quicktime 7.5 for Windows has added the ProRes422 codec so you will be able to edit the files from FCP in Vegas but, unfortunately, Apple doesn’t allow you to encode using that codec (it’s read-only) so your challenge is what to render your files to so that FCP can read them. That’s why I say ask on the FCP forum.
Maybe the CineForm codec would work since they have NeoHD for both the PC and Mac?

Go into Pan/Crop on the image event and use the Mask tool to create a mask around the mouth. Set the mask Mode to Negative to create a hole in the image where the mouth once was.

Yea, that’s what I was referring to. When I got ConnectHD it replaced the CineForm codec in Vegas too so now I’m not sure what Vegas can do on it’s own and what you need the full version of CineForm for. That’s why I said you’d have to try it and see. Glad it worked out for you.

In Vegas Pro you can run scripts which can help you change the length of events and transitions independently. No version of Movie Studio has scripting and it quite a jump in price up to the Pro version. You should be OK with just grouping and stretching.

If you group them together using the ‘G‘ key you can Ctrl+Drag to stretch them as a group. That’s about all you can do in the Movie Studio version.

You can make a feature request at the Sony web site but I doubt anyone here can tell you if it’s on Sony’s todo list or not. The problem is that AVI files contains full frames and you can split them anywhere you’d like but M2T files contain a long GOP that has delta frames and you can only split on I-Frames. Still it would be a great feature if at least Sony trimmed at the closest I-frame. I would vote for it! All I can say is make a product suggestion.

You will have to use something like Super(c) to re-encode them to a format that is easier for Vegas to edit. AVI is best using the DV, M-JPEG, Huffyuv, any codec that is not MPEG-4.
