    > it works in january and start of febuary until now it just stops working and by the way i am using service pack 3 !.

What changed about your PC during that time because something did and it is probably causing this problem? If you’ve already tried disabling all of your directx plug-ins then perhaps it’s time to call Sony Tech Support. There’s not much chance that one of us knows what’s going on underneath the hood of Vegas and you’ve already tried all the conventional fixes.

    > Failed to add envelope point (point may already exist at that location).

Do you have an envelope point at the location already? I’m not familiar with the script but I assume you must first make a timeline selection and then it creates a 4-point envelope within the selection. Perhaps you didn’t make a timeline selection first? If you can point me to the script, I can take a look for you.

February 18, 2009 at 10:55 pm in reply to: HDV Captures redundant frame

    > Is this problem unique to me?

Unfortunately no, it is a known bug in the Vegas capture utility for HDV. You should turn off scene detection or use another utility to capture HDV.

February 18, 2009 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Slow rendering with Vegas Pro 8

    > When I render with vegas 8 in HD 1480×1080 or similar, it takes hours to render 30 mins of footage. Is this normal?

HD is a broad term. What specific HD format? DVCPROHD? HDV? AVCHD? The compression used by the format will be a major contributor to how long it takes to render. The other major contributor is the FX that you’ve applied. If you’ve done any color correction then Vegas has to process each and every frame of the video and this can take a while. It is not uncommon for AVCHD to take 5x real-time meaning one hour of AVCHD can take 5 hours to render on slower PC’s.

    > Are there any tricks I can use to speed it up?

Buy the fasted QuadCore processor you can afford. Vegas rendering is mostly CPU bound. Also make sure you didn’t inadvertently change the opacity by accident or apply any other global FX that causes all of the frames to be re-processed unless you really mean it.

    > I have a dual core, 2.5 gh laptop with 4gb of ram.

The Sony site specifies a 2.8GHz as the minimal for HD editing. Is this an Intel “Duo Core” as apposed to an Intel “Core 2 Duo”? There is a BIG difference. The former is older and slower than a single core while the latter is the latest (and fastest) Intel technology. Avoid “Duo Core” and only buy “Core 2 Duo” or “Core 2 Quad”

    > If I use the 640×480 setting it still takes 2 hours.

Yes, rendering at 640×480 will take a LOT longer than rendering at 1440×1080 because in addition to processing every frame for FX, you are asking Vegas to resize every frame from 1440×1080 to 640×460 30 times for each second of footage (if it’s NTSC). That’s a lot of work.

    > Surely you do not have to leave it overnight to render do you?

If the HD is AVCHD and you’ve applied color correction and your PC is underpowered for the job… yes, overnight rendering may be your only option.

February 18, 2009 at 4:21 pm in reply to: Burning video to CD-ROM not working – please help

How are you burning to CD through Vegas? Are you using Tools | Burn Disc | Video CD? This will make an MPEG1 file which will bear no resemblance to the mp4 file you are using to judge size.

Check to be sure that all of your hardware drivers are up to date. Specifically video and audio drivers. No doubt, 64-bit drivers are a lot less mature than 32-bit drivers.

February 18, 2009 at 4:13 pm in reply to: 8.1 patch

Sony has never given any advanced notice of patches or new versions. I agree with you that 8.1 is in sore need of a patch, if for nothing else but to bring it up to the level of 8.0c (because it’s based on 8.0b). I don’t think anyone can answer your question directly becasue the information simply isn’t available.

February 18, 2009 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Making a Full Png File Smaller In The Timeline

Use Track Motion on the original PNG to scale it down and place it anywhere on the screen you’d like. The Track Motion button is on the track header (2nd from the left) or just look up Track Motion in the help file.

I believe you have to purchase Raylight from DVFilm. I don’t do P2 but this is what I’ve read.

    > I guess this is the invisible post/invisible problem treatment.

More than likely it’s the, “I haven’t a clue how to fix that” treatment. 😉

I’ve seen this and it’s happened to me and I don’t know why it doesn’t happen all the time. I haven’t seen it with Vegas Pro 8 but it happens to me with Vegas 6 once in a while. I can speculate that perhaps Vegas is having trouble shutting down the audio interface or something and so it’s waiting around to get an indication that all of the devices it has opened are now closed and it never gets that acknowledgment. But I can’t say for sure.
