In case you are unaware, there are legal reasons why Sony and Panasonic don’t play nice together. Neither one wants to sign the necessary papers to work together because because of the potential to disclose proprietary information that neither one wants the other one to have. This is because the agreements would be at the “Sony” level not the “Sony Media Software” level and Sony has too much competing camera hardware to be able to risk signing them. This is the downside of being part of a larger company with other interests at stake.

What was on the new video track? What does “all messed up mean”? Can you give us a little more to go on. Perhaps if you could post a screen shot of what is wrong.

The DVD Architect streams just guarantee that they won’t get re-rendered in DVD Architect. You can make other streams for your co-workers applications and as long as DVD Architect doesn’t tell you that it needs to re-encode it your should be fine. Otherwise I wouldn’t use a stream that’s going to get re-encoded because you will loose quality.

Part of your problem is that you bought a camcorder that does not shoot in an industry standard format. The Samsung has their own version of h.264 that no NLE is going to be optimized for. 🙁 Vegas Pro 9.0 is optimized for standard HDV and AVCHD. You should have bought a camera that shoots one of these standard formats if you planned to edit your footage. But there’s not much you can do about that now.
You’re going to need the fastest QuadCore that you can afford. H.264 requires lots of processing power. The conversations about CUDA are interesting, but the current suite that supports it (Adobe CS4) requires a $2,000USD CUDA card. So… now that your graphics card cost twice the price of your computer what have you really saved?
Vegas Pro 9.0 does a good job of taking advantage of multi-core PC’s. Get a new Intel Core i7 QuadCore and you should see a big improvement. My old Intel QX6700 QuadCore plays back AVCHD in Vegas Pro 9.0 at full frame rates.

It sounds like you have your text center aligned and even MS Word will move the text when you ask it to be centered. Try using left justify.

What format is you source footage?
What camera?
What are your project properties?
What are your render properties?
It sure sound like an interlace problem which shouldn’t happen if everything is progressive.

Add a volume envelope to the audio track and then use four (4) keyframes to bring the volume down and then back up again. It should look something like this:

I’m glad that worked for you. You don’t have to resize the preview screen to make the secondary monitor full screen. There are other options at the bottom of the Preview Device tab to make it fill the screen automatically. (check Scale output to fill display).

So your computer worked fine… then you installed some programs and now it doesn’t work. Yup, chances are, one of those programs is causing the problem.

Yes, run MSCONFIG. It will let you selectively turn off startup programs and services. There is an option to hide all Microsoft Services so that you can see just what was been added to Windows.
I would start with the startup programs. Turn them all off and reboot. Then see if playback is smooth then turn them on one by one and see which one is the culprit.
If the startup program don’t solve it then turn off all of the non-Microsoft services and do the same.
Here is an old programmer trick. After you have turned them all off, instead of turning them on one-by-one (which could take a log time) turn half of them on. If it still works the culprit is in the other half. If not, it’s in the first half. Turn half of those on, etc. It will only take a few times to narrow the search down to the offending program because you are eliminating half each time. (in programming this is called a binary search)

This has nothing to do with your camera and is a known bug in the Sony HDV capture utility. I keep scene detection off when I capture because of this. Some people use alternate capture programs like HDVSplit and CapDVHS. I have not tried either but I’m told they don’t have this problem.
