I really know nothing about the interactions between Mac’s and Xp, etc.
I will say that I burned the bluray folder to a regular dvd (actually +R since I had a lot of them lying around) using a regular dvd burner and not a blu ray burner and burned with ImgBurn.
These played on a Sony bluray player (see the link below). I also burned the folder to a BD-RE disk using a bluray burner and it played.

For what it’s worth, I don’t recall seeing a Memorex player at the best Buy where I played these so I wonder if it’s “as good as” the Sony or Samsung.
One thing that came up with the Sony players was that they sometime required a firmware update to make them recognize the disks, so it’s possible Memorex has a firmware update which might help you there.

Otherwise, I’d take one of the disks you made which won’t play on the Memorex down to Best Buy and see if it will play on one of their Sony BluRay players. Just a thought.
It would be interesting to see how this works out for you.

Several folks have worked this out using Windows machines, creating a BluRay folder with Encore and then burning the folder to a DVD with ImgBurn.

I don’t know if you can do it on a Mac or not, but you should be able to burn a folder to a regular dVD.

    Thanks Richard,

I’m going to have to look into Actions further to figure out how to do the Stop and Continue.

September 12, 2008 at 1:29 am in reply to: Video Button Loop PROBLEM Encore CS3

I don’t know if this applies since I used Encore 2.0 to do this, but I took a 10 sec avi and put it in a timeline and linked it to a video button and checked “animate buttons”.
Then I alt dragged a 53 sec avi into the menu and the motion menu background was listed in properties as 53 seconds.
After rendering menus etc, and previewed, the background menu played for 53 seconds and the button motion menu kept looping until the end of the 53 seconds.
I tried to shorten the length of the 53 sec menu, but it just gave me a blank screen on preview.
Maybe the chapters are a problem.
I’m not sure whether your idea was to use part of a longer clip with poster frames for this, but I didn’t check chapters.
If you wanted to, you could probably use the render files to make the entire motion background movie.
Am I missing something here or will separate timelines work for you?

    September 3, 2008 at 10:51 pm in reply to: Burning a Blu-ray image to a DVD-R

Here’s a couple of threads about this. I got ImgBurn to make a playable BluRay disk on DVD after burning the BluRay Image with Encore.

Also, you can edit the BluRay folder so you can play the DVD on PlayStation 3.

Whether the BluRay player works, though, depends on whether there is new firmware installed.

    Ollie,

Check out the tutorial called Simple Motion Menu near the bottom of the list (the second site Dave Garrett gave you above).
I think this explains some of what you want.

I’m not sure why you are “converting a photoshop file into a timeline”.

August 12, 2008 at 2:14 pm in reply to: BluRay failings in Encore CS3. Thoughts?

“Ok, so are you creating timelines because the buttons won’t route correctly to the correct chapters in a single timeline? That is one thing that actually works here. What does not work here is going back to the Chapter Menu when you hit “Menu” on the remote, it always defaults to the Main Menu no matter what you do.”

When I use the chapter points to hook up to buttons (even if I use Jeff Bellune’s idea of putting each chapter in it’s own chapter playlist with no overrides), even if the menu seems to preview ok, when I have burned it, the menu navigation works ok, but when I “hit” the button, nothing happens ie no footage plays.

I don’t use enough menus to be able to comment on the Menu on the remote problem.

    Walter,
I have done a few BluRay disks using a Windows system and for what it’s worth, I’ll put in my answers.
So my questions to all of you dabbling in BluRay Authoring are:

Are you creating multiple menu projects?
I just use two menus (Play all and Scenes) and then a Scenes menu.

If so, how many menus and how many buttons per menu?
So far I’ve just used menus from the library (one had six buttons). There is at least one HD menu in the Library that has a motion background, which worked for me.

Are they routing correctly when you burn to disc?
THe buttons don’t work when I use chapters, so I have to use separate timelines for each “scene”. Also, the secondary menu always comes up with the second button selected. However, the first or primary menu seems to have the default or first button selected appropriately.

Are you able to burn directly to BluRay disc successfully directly from Encore consistently?
I have always used Encore to make a folder and then burned with ImgBurn even with SD, so I’ve done the same with the BluRay. I have just burned the folder to BD-RE media, but it plays on my PS3 and one other BluRay Player (Sony ) with updated firmware.

Are you able to successfully create BluRay ISO files?
Actually, I’ve created .iso or image files with Encore, and burned them to a regular DVD with ImgBurn and they play on the Sony player, but not PS3.

Are they actually burning to disc correctly and playing back in the BluRay player correctly?
The disks I’ve made have played ok on the Sony Player as I mentioned. I had to edit the file to make the BluRay on regular DVD play on my PS3.

If so, are you running Windows or Mac? Windows.

I’ve included a couple of threads which sort of summarizes the experience of others burning BluRay material to regular DVD’s which may be of interest.

July 29, 2008 at 9:11 pm in reply to: HD H.264 burn to RED laser

Here’s a couple of threads that might be helpful, which are really sumation threads. Several folks have successfully burned HDV footage to regular DVD’s which can be played in numerous players including Playstation3 (with some extra steps for the PS3) using ImgBurn to burn BluRay Images from Encore CS3.
Sometimes the firmware has to be updated on the players.
At least one author mentioned he successfully burned a dual layer DVD with about an hour’s worth of HDV material.
Apparently the new version of Sony DVD Architect will do this.
