Note that not all Blu-ray players support BDMV written to DVD.

I’ve tried it. Though it will play back on a Sony BDP-301 player, it stutters.

Here’s a couple of threads that might be helpful, which are really sumation threads. Several folks have successfully burned HDV footage to regular DVD’s which can be played in numerous players including Playstation3 (with some extra steps for the PS3) using ImgBurn to burn BluRay Images from Encore CS3.
Sometimes the firmware has to be updated on the players.
At least one author mentioned he successfully burned a dual layer DVD with about an hour’s worth of HDV material.
Apparently the new version of Sony DVD Architect will do this.
