If you go to Help and search for button routing you will come up with a more detailed answer, but all you have to do is 1.Make sure the menu is in the monitor and click on it 2. find the properties panel and down toward the bottom, uncheck automatically route buttons and then 3. Run your cursor along the bottom of the menu monitor over each of the buttons until the Tool tip says Button routing and click it. 4. All the buttons have black crosses on them, so drag a line to the button you want from each branch of the cross on another button.

Sorry, I didn’t see your previous post. Why don’t you just use widescreen PAL for both the menu and the comp in AE?

There are certain size standards for DVD’s which Joe knows a lot more about than I.

I’m trying to recreate what you are doing.
What you must be doing is creating a menu with buttons.
Then in AE you make a button transition that animates the buttons off the screen and then the second menu appears.

I made a simple menu in photoshop with a background color layer and two text buttons, Play all and Scene select. The menus used the Widescreen DV preset.
Then I imported this menu into AE as a comp, opened the comp, and animated the buttons to fly off the screen. I rendered it as uncompressed .avi.
I then created a project in encore, imported the simple menu as menu, and the clip as an asset (along with a multiple scenes menu),
All three of these elements registered as 720×480 (for some reason the aspect ratio doesn’t register) in encore.
I linked the clip to the scene select button as a transition and the scene select button to the second menu and previewed.
It appears to work fine and I don’t see any apparent jump in size with the transition. There is a slight jump when going to the transition, which I think is normal.
I didn’t even bother to burn the disk, since it seems to work.

I really don’t know why you are having trouble, but if you do it the way I did, it should work.

Just for my own information, if you wouldn’t mind, I had a couple of thoughts.
    1. What do you mean by “transition between buttons”. I always thought button transitions were for transitions between buttons and timelines, menus, or playlists.

    2. If you want to have your buttons animate into position in the menu, a lot of folks use a motion menu they make in AE which I think works better.

    3. When you import the various assets, and select them in the project window, you can see their size up at the top of the PW.

Sorry. I was trying to use the same controler layer for two zax layers. I was hoping just to use the KF’s for the one controler, but somehow that seemed to cause the problem.

I used a separate controler layer for each layer, and the rotation works ok.

    JOe,
Thanks for the your help. I went ahead and SavedAS after I disconnected all the timelines, deleted them and then their .avi’s and saved the project.

This may sound stupid (how else can it sound?), but how do I clear or clean the the cache?

Should I go inside the Sources file and delete the transcoded stuff that’s already there or is there some command that I use.
    Thanks again.

I have multiple menus with autoactivate hooking up various buttons (that’s what I meant by “menu routing”) and I want to avoid having to reestablish those links.

    Sorry not to be clear.

Joe, I appologize if you covered this before, but I had a couple of thoughts.

As Joe alluded, you need a menu that is 1920×1080. In Encore CS3 there was one such menu that came in the library labeled HD (I think it was called Cradle or something).

I would start the project over and find that HD menu and import it into the project, and then see if you could replace it’s motion menu with yours by alt-dragging your background into the menu and see if it previews.
There might be a blank HD menu in the library also, but I don’t think there was one in CS3.
I’d be interested to hear how it works out.
