You or someone else must have inadvertently edited them into a sequence when the project was set to 1080i. A motion adapter got applied to all clips automatically. When you opened the project as 1080p, the motion adapters stayed on until you refreshed the sequence.

ProRes LT or ProRes proxy. Maybe XDCAM HD.

The ones you mentioned will not give you smaller file sizes and don’t have RT playback capability.

AFAIK, Aperture has no Video Out capability and cannot make use of your BMD cards SDI
A secondary display can only be a conventional computer monitor connected to your graphics card via DVI, display port, etc.

“It is when you do a Premiere (Main-concept H.264) export as video only, without checking the audio.”

Well, that would be pretty much true with any codec. If you select not to export audio, you won’t get any.

Now if we are discussing m2v for DVD production…yes, that is video only, as typically you create an m2v file for the video and a compressed AC3, mp2, DTS or uncompressed .wav or .aif file for the audio.

m4v is the extension for Apple device (iPhone/iPad/iTunes/AppleTV) compatible video. It’s actually Mpeg 4 in a Quicktime container, as well. It is not a video-only format.

I’m pretty certain that not all codecs are supported by this feature.

“I think this is more of a marketing decision rather than a technical one.”

Yep. It happens all the time. Apple loves playing that game. Until recently, everyone accepted as fact that the Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 could not run the 64 bit kernel and could never upgrade to Mountain Lion and Mavericks. Turns out some gamers figured out how to write a boot loader that bypasses the EFI limitation and those Mac Pros can run “pure” 64 bit no problem.

You basically answered your own question….

Use something other than USB 2 for starters.

Depends on what model Mac you have. You did not give any specs.

FW400, FW800, USB3, eSATA, Thunderbolt are all better options. USB2 is about the worst performer.

Even with a faster disk, you may still have problems if your CPU is slower.

You can only have 50p in a 720 project in Avid. If you are in a 1080 project, you can only convert to 25p. There is no 50p option at all.
