Freelance Healthcare
I posted this here in hopes that my assumption is right: A lot of the video editors out there are freelancers.
As the new law is taking effect this year, how are some of you faring? Are you guys already covered? Have you signed up? Are there other solutions out there?
I am a Los Angeles resident freelance video editor and I’m currently in the stage of choosing my insurance
*I understand everyone is different with age/family/income level/location.
**Also, I don’t want to start a heated argument on the new law, I am just curious as to what my fellow colleagues are going about this.

I signed up under CoveredCA for the Platinum Ultimate PPO 90 through Blue Shield and ended up saving $380 a month over what I was paying to Anthem Blue Cross for an individual plan. I used to get my insurance through the IA but not a lot of union work any more.

Still looking. But now that Warren mentioned what he just got, I’ll take a look at that plan. I’ve been uninsured for 5 years…because plans were very very expensive.

Ugh…they still are for my size family….5. NO way can I afford platinum. Even Silver plans are high. But I also don’t qualify for assistance. I worked solid last year.

It’s different in every state. You have to go through the wizard too see what the options are. I am incorporated in Georgia. It really didn’t changed much from before ACA other then less plans to choose from. But for some there are benefits. Personally I am very skidish about subsidies since those are political variables that can change with the wind. The whole industry needs a makeover.
