I push this method every chance i get.
Make a Compressor droplet. Its easy.
Open Compressor. Look in the Presets pane. Open the Folder called Audio Formats. Select AIFF 48/16.
In the File menu select “Save as Droplet”Put in on your Desktop or anywhere else convenient (even drag it to the dock…or the sidebar or top of a Finder window).
Now converting a bunch of CD tracks is a simple drag and drop operation.
Using the Destinations pane, you can select to have them end up on your media drive.

You don’t edit it. Just Trash it.
Next launch of FCP, it will ask you to enter your serial number and register it.

Yes. You must use Disk Warrior.
Disk First Aid cannot fix this. (I have seen the error before and it is SERIOUS). You will lose all the data on this drive if you do not back it up in short order.
If DW cannot fix it, you need to reformat the drive.

Apparently you can do this. Never tried.
From the FCP 5 FAQ on Apples Website.

This is normal. It’s not recommended to capture to the boot drive of any machine for this reason. The operating system is already keeping that disk pretty busy without the rigors of capturing video.

What is the sample rate of the audio files he is giving you. do they match the sample rate of the sequence? you can check this in the browser.

The source timecode should be there. Get them to re-export it.
Tell them to make sure everything has a reel number, otherwise it may be regarded as a non-timecode source (like a graphics file).
