FWIW, I think Compressor, in the forthcoming FCP Studio 2 has a timecode burn in filter.

I usually use DV50 (as in the project I am currently cutting) or 8 bit Uncompressed.

Others elsewhere in the thread are reporting Export to DV doesnt work right, but if you use Export to Quicktime, then select the DV codec it works fine.

Quicktime is reporting the wrong pixel size. Don’t worry about it.

This is a bug that has to do with the “Conform Aperture to” setting in the Presentation pane of the Properties window in Quicktime Player. It doesnt cause any problems in FCP, which interprets the size correctly. You can possibly get Quicktime Player to properly report the frame size by playing with this setting, if it bothers you.

Hmm. I am using a bunch of Streamclip files here and not seeing this…but I am on PPC G5 and not Intel.

What codec have you converted to? Does it do this with all codecs?

Import the H264 clip into FCP…load it into the viewer, then use the Modify Timecode command to add the correct timecode to it.

I kinda lumped all those functions in as part of the export and editing functions. They are all very useful and distinct functions. (though personally, I do most of my conversions with Compressor droplets including the conversions to AIFF)

I think we are kinda on the same page…I’m just expressing myself really badly tonight. I actually wanted the poster to get Quicktime Pro, and I think I implied the opposite….that it wasnt very useful.

What other features do you use that are not in the non-pro version?

Is it the full screen video?…the capture functions? Just curious…what am I missing?

The OMF standard is very old. Avid never really updated it after a certain point…though you can work around the limitation on Avid systems by using Linked OMF files instead of embedded, which is what FCP uses. Avid has moved toward AAF with their latest MXF based media, so don’t expect the 2GB limit to change, as it is essentially being phased out.

Just make several timelines with 2-4 tracks of your audio. Export from each and put it all back together in ProTools. Easy.

The original poster (Danrnw) was trying to export from a system w/o Pro and didnt get why it wasnt working…I was trying to make the point that export functions were pretty much the whole point of Quicktime Pro.

Agreed. I assume you are referring to non-FCP computers you own, since you automatically have Quicktime Pro for free on FCP systems.
