June 6, 2007 at 1:09 am in reply to: color desaturated from photoshop with FCP 6 and Motion 3There are new gamma settings for imported footage in FCP 6. Just play with those until you get it right.

Xpress Pro, Adrenaline and Symphony Nitris import Meridien stuff fast, as always.
Make sure your settings are correct on the Avid end (if you have it set to transcode to another compression, or to MXF perhaps…it will be slow)
As stated earlier, if they are importing directly off a DVD-R or CD-R, it will be glacially slow.
they should copy to the boot drive or media drive, then import from there. -
[JeremyG] “The thing is with those h264s, most of them are at a funky aspect ratio so you might have some stretching/cropping that might look weird once getting it a format that the Kona is happy with.”
Yes. You can convert them to another codec, such as DVCPRO-HD. I edit an award show for movie trailers and have done a great deal of this. Most (but not all) of the trailers on Apple’s site are in the extremely wide 2.35:1 aspect ratio…however, if you use the letterbox filter in Compressor (or the new padding feature Compressor 3), you can properly letterbox them within a 16:9 frame. Some of the trailers are blown up/cropped to 16:9 already (you can identify them by checking its properties), and appear full frame, others are in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

Does this happen in a specific area of the timeline, or does the sequence not play at all?
When this has happened to me, I just made a video mixdown of the problem segment and replaced the video with it. Sometimes you don’t have the time to debug it.

Set up your computer for multiple users….one user is for FCP and one is for Protools.
Put the plugins for protools in the user library for the Protools User instead of the Library folder at root level.

You are not an idiot. Its kind of clunky and not obvious. Dont know if its improved in Compressor 3 yet.
Create a custom Destination. Click on that custom destination in the Destination Pane.
Go to the Inspector and look in the space called Template. There is a pulldown menu it. It gives you various choices of what to include in the file name…or you can just select everything in the box and delete it and it will leave it the same as the source file.

[Eli Mavros] “doing it the way you described still requires me to “fix” each one individually, no? I just want it not to add that stuff and keep the name the same.”
No. You can have it name the clips exactly the way you want automatically, every time.
Just select the destination preset you create, just like you select an encoding preset and you are good to go. -
You can change the naming convention Compressor uses in the Destination pane.

select the clip.
right click on it and select “make offline”
modify its clip settings to the desired amount of audio tracks.
reconnect to the new media.
