Compressor renaming

But I was wondering if there was a way to just not have the program add all that stuff…doing it the way you described still requires me to “fix” each one individually, no? I just want it not to add that stuff and keep the name the same.

No. You can have it name the clips exactly the way you want automatically, every time.
Just select the destination preset you create, just like you select an encoding preset and you are good to go.

I feel like a complete idiot, but I don’t see where you are talking about. I see in the destination area that I can set where the movies go, but not any preferences on how they are named. Where exactly is this pref?

You are not an idiot. Its kind of clunky and not obvious. Dont know if its improved in Compressor 3 yet.

Create a custom Destination. Click on that custom destination in the Destination Pane.

Go to the Inspector and look in the space called Template. There is a pulldown menu it. It gives you various choices of what to include in the file name…or you can just select everything in the box and delete it and it will leave it the same as the source file.

Eli is right. There’s something wrong with naming in version 3. I’m trying to figure it out right now. It’s really screwed up.

Okay I figured it out. After doing the upgrade, Compressor 3 remembers your old Compressor 2 default destination. But the destination is corrupted. You need to throw it away and create a new one.
