Full Raster HD Pixel Aspect Ratio is square. SD video is D1 (non-square). Could that be what you are seeing?

Can you change it in clip properties?

That should not matter. The file names do not have to match the clip name. Have you tried what I suggested using Media Manager?

Did you use Media Manager to make an offline sequence (with same length handles), then reconnect that… or are you using the original sequence, which expects the longer length original media to still be there?

Um. No. FCP is a Quicktime based editor. Its not made to work with AVI.

You might try using Compressor for this instead. Its made to convert stuff to and from different formats. I am actually converting an AVI file to Uncompressed Quicktime as I type this and its working perfectly.

Media Manager is not without its problems, but I think you are asking it to do something its not made to do.

HD video, at best is 1920 X 1080 pixels.

Thats still considerably less resolution than professional still photography.

If you want the magazine to look good, use still photographic equipment and shooters.

Dont expect miracles…but use the FCP 3 way color corrector to get the cameras to match as closely as you can (especially the white balance). Consult FCP Help manual for more info on how to match the cameras.

There’s no magic filter to make a crappy DV camera look like a pro camera, but if the colors match its a lot less distracting.

FCP does not show video at full resolution in the canvas.
Quicktime Player does not show DV at full resolution unless you check “High Quality” playback in the Movie Properties window.

You can only judge your video quality on an external video monitor…not your computer monitor.

Just export a Quicktime movie (not Quicktime Conversion). This will be the same format as your edit.

I used to back some things up to DVD, but spanning things across multiple disks can be a hassle. Backing up and restoring from DVD can be time consuming.

You can get a 500GB Firewire hardrive for less than $200 these days. It really is so much faster and easier to back up to a drive, its hard to justify the hassle of DVD’s when you really aren’t saving all that much money.

Why not just save to a firewire hard drive? They are so inexpensive these days, why bother burning all those DVD’s.
