Are you sure the frame size is set to 720 x 486 ? The older systems did not like 720 x 480. Also double check your frame rate…make sure it’s 29.97.

What is the file size of the clips that won’t import?

There may be a 2GB file size limit on the old Meridien system. If thats the case, you may need to break up the clip into small segments

I just did a bunch of these using Compressor. It did a fantastic job…much better than FCP or Motion.

In the Geometry pane, you can use the presets or select custom to change the degree and location of cropping.

You must turn on the Frame Controls and set the resize to Better or Best to get improved results.

Be ready for a long render time though.

The compression and limiter filters in Soundtrack Pro are actually very good, once you get the hang of it… This type of adjustment usually achieves better results than just normalization.

    Just sayin.

Are you working with several long master clips or many smaller captures?

If you can determine the offset (not always easy), you can load the master clip into the Viewer and use the Modify/Timecode command to change the starting timecode by 10 frames (or whatever the offset is).

I have successfully done something similar to this replacing footage offlined with DVD footage (no timecode) and onlined with HDCAM.

Its always best to start each element at a logical timecode (on the minute or half minute, for example).

I’ve had many a tape delivered to me over the years where I had to be a video detective to figure out what the first frame of the matte actually was (its not always the first frame of video if the keying occurs later) because they just layed it all out at random timecodes

Don’t over think this. You just lay each element off individually. Do not mess with the composite modes. Whoever gets this tape will do that when and if he tries to rebuild the composite. This is just to give another editor the building blocks of the piece. A tape with fills and mattes is the most compatible thing, as its not dependent on codecs or edit platforms.

Sounds like a permissions problem. Are you using shared storage?

The sequence is probably corrupt. Create a new empty sequence, copy all clips from the old one to the new one and see if your problem disappears.

  • Ignore previous post about rental. I thought you were interested in selling a complete system, not just the software. Sorry.
