  • Best Way to Manually rebuild offline media

Posted by David Mosquera keith on January 16, 2009 at 12:39 pm

Well the thing is ive had problems with a hard drive and now i had to recapture the footage, it is super8 Hi8 so i cant batch capture, and if i reconnect the edit is out of synch…

the Question: Wich is the best way or tool to manually rebuild these edits??

I mean once i reconnect them wich is the best way to get them back to synch?do i have to re-edit(hope not)?

    Saludos David Mosquera

    Hi David,
In the moment you recapture, the clips in the sequence should show up ON LINE.

Hi raphael thanks for answering, the clips wherent re-captured on this computer, as i dont have hardware to capture super8 or hi8, so i have new video files that dont match the original edit ( they dont start and end at the same exact moment, they dont have the same duration )

the question is how do i roll them into place?or is this posible?

    Thank you

ISorry I havent realize the High-8 have no TC. Once you have captured the footage, You will need to change the contents of the clips in the sequence manually.
You can use the “Paste Atributes: Content” function.
And you will need a movie to serve you as reference to rebuild he time-line.

You’re going to have manually rebuild the timeline unfortunately. Since there is zero timecode on Hi8 there is nothing for FCP to reference to. So you’ll have to rebuild everything manually unfortunately.

I would suggest purchasing a second drive and backup all your media after you’re done capturing just in case you have any other issues. At least you won’t have to recapture and you’ll be able to reconnect since it will be the exact same media.

Hey rafael thanks again for taking the time,i actually dont understand how the paste atribute:content could help or how would i use that, and what u said about having a reference movie,do you mean having a reference of the original movie to create a movie file the same duration and that starts on the exact same frame so it automaticaly fits when i reconnect?if this is what you meant i cant do it i dont have a reference of the original! 🙁

what i have done is directly reconnected the media ,it loads fine, the only thing is that the edit is about 10 frames out of synch ( i dont mean audio/video synch i mean the edit cuts 10 frames before it should in every cut), how can i roll the whole edit 10 frames into synch??hope im explaining myself!

    regards Dave

Hi Walter thanks for answering, when you say manually rebuild the timeline do you mean re-editing the whole thing?or manually fitting it to place again?if so wich would be the tool or way to do it?

    Hi David,
You have been very lucky to re-capture with such little shift in your IN/OUT points, but I don’t see a way way to move at once the footage of all the clips.
If there is no TC eliminating the 10 first frames of the master clip could work.

thats a good idea rafael!at least its better than re-editing!it is a little bit uncomfortable but could do the job, i have a few hours of edits in sequences and id prefer to do this than re edit thanks man.and if anyone has a way of doing it from final cut it would be perfect…

    Gracias amigo! Dave

Manually replacing each shot. You’ll just have to manually replace everything just as if you were editing from the get go.
