Selling Avid Media Composer Symphony & Nirtris 2.8..how much should I chargeÉÉ?

Sorry to lecture, but there is no such thing as a “Media Composer Symphony”. There is an “Avid Media Composer”, and there is an “Avid Symphony”. If it is a Media Composer, it cannot be a Nitris, since Media Composer only works standalone, with Mojo, Mojo SDI, Adrenaline or Adrenaline HD (or, since v3 with Mojo DX or Nitris DX). If it is a Symphony, it cannot be version 2.8, since there was no Symphony Nitris 2.8, they went from 1.8 to 3.0.
Whether it is one or the other will greatly affect the value, IMO.
Also, it would be good to specify the CPU included, and whether or not you are including storage, monitors, etc.
Currently a new Symphony Nitris DX system, turnkey, lists for something like 36K. A new MC with Nitris DX for 24K. You can look at sites like Ebay to see what prices are being asked for used systems.

Hard to say what that’s worth.
I have a regular old Media Composer on Adrenaline that I just paid off that is hardly worth one of the payments I was making.

Not sure where you are, but you might want to look into renting this system out if you have no use for it.
With a few long term rentals, you might make more money than selling it. With the new DX hardware and lower pricing, the resale value isn’t great, but the Symphony Nitris is still an excellent system with great capabilities.

Thanks for your input but to clarify things, what I have and want to sell is Avid Media Composer 2.8. It’s just the dongle, Avid Basic Guide book (for media composer and Symphony Nitris) and the keypad stickers). Would anyone be able to give me an estimate? And what are you chances it would sell since there’s already a new version out?
Someone mentioned renting it. I don’t know anyone who rents editing software.

The most current Media Composer is version 3.x, and it’s $2,495 US.

You have version 2.8, so anybody buying will be getting an older version, and the upgrade to 3.x is $295 (download only–no third party apps), or $495 to upgrade with all the newest 3rd party apps.

Take into consideration a license transfer fee if this software has been registered with Avid–that’s about another $100.

So figure $2,500 – $500 upgrade – $100 license transfer = $1,900. I’d try for about $1,400 – $1,600. Post it here:

Also, this isn’t the academic version, is it? If so, sell it for $150-$200 (academic version is only $295 new).
