Initially, I would cut separately, until you have them pretty decently cut, then start stringing scenes together to address how they flow with each other.

  • You might want to use ProRes 422 instead of HQ, as the resolution of the GoPro is not really high enough to take advantage of ProRes HQ…you’ll just get a larger file size with no discernible improvement.

You might also want to experiment with both “Better” and “Best” settings for resize. Better is much faster than Best for encoding, and is often indistinguishable In quality.

Look in the destinations pane in Compressor. Did someone create a naming template from another job with LT in it?

“No need for Uncompressed, you can pick one of the Meridien compression flavors. All of them live in that same Avid codec package, though”

I wouldn’t subject my graphics to Meridien Compression, …but maybe I am just picky. Regular video, sure…but not graphics.

The 1200 is not a real editing deck. You cannot edit to tape using the Decklink card. You can get it to work with firewirer, but there are accuracy issues, mas you have seen

    You need the 1400A.

I use STP for audio work on a project I do once a year, and it performs surprisingly well.
My setup has all the content media, and all caches, installed on the media array and not the default setting of the startup disc. Or maybe I have just been lucky.

As far as the time stamp issue…perhaps this has to do with interoperability with Avid/Protools, which also do this?
Of course, in Avid you must specify a project frame rate, where in FCP anything goes….so timestamping can give you umm….interesting results.

Have you tried switching your project temporarily to SD to perform the capture?

Unlike Pro Res, DNXHD is only for HD though…

If you want SD, you’ll have to use Avid Uncompressed, which is still smaller than Animation

Sounds like the ProRes 4444 files are RGB and you are rendering YUV.

  • If you are using fop 7 you can re-name the files to match the clip names you created in FCP. Look in the Modify menu. You will have to recreate your folder structure, as FCP bins only exist in the project file.
