Sync locks are very useful, especially when you first start with Avid.
One thing to keep in mind is that unlike FCP, the empty space in your timeline is not empty….it’s essentially black and you treat it like a clip. While it might seem annoying at first, it actually helps you keep in sync.

It most certainly can encode. You probably have made an error in settings. check every single one to. Make sure they make sense.
Two other things: unlike Apple Pro Res, Avid DNX is only for HD. In addition, you must use standard broadcast frame sizes and frame rates. You can’t customize at all.

Sounds like you are trying to edit a stereo clip into mono tracks.
Stereo clips can appear as a single track.
To edit the way I think you wish to, you’ll have to modify the clip to split it into L/R individual tracks.
Look in Media Composer Help to learn how Stereo tracks work.

There is such a thing as 60 frames per second in 1080, but not in the formats you are shooting.

1080i/60 is 29.97 fps. It is 60 interlaced FIELDS per second.

I think you shot 1080i/60, which is not 60 frames per second. It’s 29.97. so no slow motion for you.
60 frames per second is only available at 720p on many cameras.

If the drive is formatted FAT 32 or NTFS (PC formatted) FCP X cannot see it. This is not true of legacy versions of FCP.
FCP X can only work with MacOSX Extended.

I switch back and forth between Mac and PC quite often.
The performance difference, if there is one is, not noticeable. Avid does not have anything resembling a Mercury Engine that makes serious use of the GPU. It’s just the crappy DVE that uses it at all.FWIW on my Mac station running version 6.01, it properly detects my NVIDIA geforce 470 card and says it is using it for 3D warp effects.

They might be competing for the same driver. You might also be exceeding the power limit on the PCIe bus.
