The key is perfectly balanced and pure, but the subjects are very dark. I can pull a perfect key, I was just wondering if I should correct the footage before I key it. Also, when I try and improve the levels, a lot of grain is introduced in the dark areas. This is 10-bit uncompressed footage from HDCAM. UG!!!

I experienced the same problem with my AJA Io and found a great solution that didn’t require changing my sequence settings at all. I simply added a directional blur in the motion tab set to one pixel at 0 degrees. This way I was able to keep my sequence set to 10 bit and have a drop shadow behind my PICT file.

Joe, I found that if I apply a directional blur vertically set at 1 pixel, the green artifacts don’t show up in FCP. Let me know if that works for you. Thanks for the reply.
