  • Check Sequence > Sequence settings and change the display format there. The sequence’s Timecode display settings override the general.

    Looking around the internet has turned up many examples of this, and everyone seems to agree it’s a bug related to copy and pasting audio from one project to another.

    Instead, try importing the original PP project into the current one, open the timeline where these files originally were, and then copy them to the new timeline (which is now a copy/paste inside the same project. See if that works.

  • Go to Project>Project Settings>General and then change Display Format from Frames to Timecode.

    Those formats will work, but it all comes down to the settings you use to export and most importantly, the data rate.

    If you can tell us what you’re trying to do with the file you’re making we can be more helpful.

    Last time I had to do this I used a .WMV file. Seemed to work. The other time it was an MPEG-1. I forget why it had to be MPEG-1

    Correct. those three settings are 1080i 29.97 interlaced, 29.97psf (basically progressive) and 23.976psf (again, basically progressive.)

    They write it as 30fps and 24fps because that makes more sense to consumers and it’s shorter. Very, Very few cameras that say 30fps actually shoot 30fps… most really shoot 29.97. Shane Ross listed the few exceptions: The Canon 5D Mk2 with it’s original firmware, and most point and shoot cameras.

    All real video cameras shoot fractional frame rates. (in the US anyway)

  • You could try doing the frame rate conversion in AE, it might do a better job.

    Really though, all the game footage should have been captured with VSync on and the monitor’s refresh rate set to 60Hz. That way (assuming your computer is capable of 40-60fps in the game) you’ll end up with a 60fps video which will contain a lot of duplicate frames. (every time the game went under 60fps) Dropping this into a 30fps timeline with frame-blend turned off should result in a smooth 30fps video.

    Thats the theory anyway.

    the HV30 is an HDV camera. HDV is 29.97.

    Sure you can play one clip at a time… The problem no part of your system is going to handle 6 streams at once.

    Playing multiple streams puts a very high demand on your disks, much more then just 6 times, because the data access is no longer a sustained read… it has to jump around to read all 6 files at once.

    Your processer is probably not up to the task ether.

    In your situation I’d probably forgo the Multicam viewer and just stack the 6 clips in the timeline and cut it manually.

    Transcoding isn’t really an option because you’ll hit the limits of your disks. Proxies would work though.

    Try force rendering each clip. Just cause it’s yellow doesn’t mean anything in this case. All that’s telling you is is probably can play one clip in real time. Premiere’s default preview render format is MPEG2 which will be far less taxing on your processor, but chances are your disks are still too slow. However, it may improve things to the point that you can edit. (This is assuming that Premiere uses the preview files for multi-cam playback… I have no idea if it does or not. )

  • This isn’t really a fair test at all. Any test comparing FCPX against Premiere without CUDA/Open CL isn’t really an direct comparison.

    I would love to see this test done by someone with a new Mac that has a Premiere supported GPU in it.
